Mercer County press box crew was not happy with our royal jerseys and scarlet numbers. I thought they looked great. Old School/Classic. 

I left and they got new jerseys.

1982 we(Mercer) were 1-8. Temps in the 30s. We took a Pep Bus to Berea.  Packed.

Early in the game, I let go of a pass, face mask in my back and my face is in the dirt. I hear our corner of the bleachers, our pep bus crew, cheering loud.  Alan Hendred caught the pass and was gone. About 80 yards total. 

That is a great memory and I will always appreciate my classmates that rode the Pep Bus. And, we won our last two games to finish 3-8. 

My HS Football Coach, Larry French. And Berea was his alma mater. 

Don't ever tell me Friday Night HS football isn't special. Nothing like it.

I actually wish the whole cheering section would shout that in certain situations. Everyone knows they want to draw you offsides and you still see a player jump.

On the transfer peeve, yes I agree that players should be able to transfer and pick their school. But, most times, I think that transferring is counter to what HS football should be about. Personally (understanding that opinions differ), HS football is about playing with the guys you grew up with in your community and playing for the community you grew up in, whether that team is good or bad. I also think transferring just to play for a better team is counter to what I believe HS football tries to instill, I.e., that when things are tough, you don't tuck tail and run for greener pastures, you stick it out with the guys you grew up with and the community you grew up in. That's what makes men out of boys and, personally, memories of playing with/for your boys are the best memories.

A write up in the Advocate-Messenger following that Mercer win over Berea. Larry French calling it "an awful good win for us" sounds a whole lot like David Buchanan saying the same thing today! Included is a picture of coach Larry French from earlier in the season.

1. I am not a huge fan of black uniforms but this is about the players/coaches, if they like and want it, go for it.  So I agree with you.

2. "Back in our day or back in my day" is a slippery slope.  If you just want to complain things were better back in the day then I agree, but if you want to tell an entertaining story that provides insights about the past vs. the present, I disagree.  It really comes down to your motives and delivery.  If you want to be heard, know your audience and make it interesting.

3. Live-streaming is the single best thing that has happened for BGP.  Pretty much everything else that has happened has been a loser for BGP.  But that is selfish on my part.  However, for many people, especially older people and grandparents living out of town, live-streaming is amazing.  We all should have a choice and I have no issue at all with paying for any and all live streams and if I was only following one team it would not be that expensive.  So as much as "we" would all like to get out and support the kids at any given venue, that is not always feasible and again we should all have a choice. 

4. Cash is King.  And we as a society are very short-sighted if we all don't demand cash be accepted.  With that said, carry a debit/credit card too or put another way, always have a backup plan. 

5.  Let the kids play and let them transfer, who cares.  No one (or no school system) owns any kids.  Kids and parents should be able to decide where they go to school and no one should be able to interfere with that. 

The true winners in the "no-cash" tickets are the 3rd party companies that charge the "fees" in issuing such tickets.

The real winners are the staff members who used to sit huddled together counting the old crinkled up, sometimes wet bills and tried to match them up to an number of tickets sold and made sure that corresponded with the next ticket on the roll. 

Air Horns, Cow Bells, Music, Bands playing while the game is live.

When public schools that have wealthy kids chant Daddy's money at private schools during games. I'd be ok with it if some school like Iroquois or Western did it.

LOL I got a mental image of Ballard's student section chanting at Evangel Christian or DeSales in a basketball game.
