A play action is an intent to deceive.  A reverse is an intent to deceive.  The player was on the field the whole time and never left the field and was lined up where a receiver could be lined up legally so what is illegal about it?  How is it a pretend substitution if he never leaves the field?  They caught Highlands on it.  Ole Miss got UK on the same play a few years ago.

Pretend substitution is this case is being confused with the "Hide-out" type play. Which is why everyone must check into the playing field by running inside the numbers. I still have not saw the play in its entirety, only the small video by the Lexington-Herald after the snap and can't seem to find it, but from the description, it only becomes illegal if the player is running off the field with intent to be substituted. A jog and then standing on the playing surface falls into the rules perfectly. I have ran this same type of play before. If I am a play caller I am telling the officials before the play happens to ensure they are watching and have time to process the rule as it is happening. Then it is left up to their judgement, they deemed it legal, who are we to second guess that.

Boyle notified the refs what they were doing before the play. It was totally legal and as was mentioned earlier been used forever. Fans can't change the rules just because their team is not prepared. If Highlands had covered the receiver, Boyle would have called a timeout and then punted.

Driver punted most of the night but it really doesn't matter as anyone can punt. Boyle used quick kicks by QB in the past, as do other teams.

I think it matters a lot.  QB was not in quick kick formation, but deep.  Should have been a major clue to double check, something is fishy.  My post was addressing tdyballgame’s post calling out Highland’s lack of attentiveness.  If he is right, Haddix spotted it well in advance of this game and exposing it now (if it exists) will help the Birds.

It's fine. You can have your opinion. But he literally jogs to the sideline and stands pretending to talk to a coach, with his shoulders completely parallel to the sideline. It is an intent to deceive with a pretended substitution. I'm probably the opposite of a Highlands fan, but this was an illegal play, and would have made a huge difference in a close game.

As I stated if you read the rule posted nothing that happened in that play was a violation of anything written in the rule. I am not stating an opinion I am stating facts. Zero call on the field because there was not violation. Has nothing to do with being a fan of either team just the play wasn't illegal.

Not an official here, but if 11 came to the sideline and 11 went back in past the numbers and then the player went back to the sidelines as a wideout/gunner…….shame on the Birds.  Would suspect refs knew in advance or they would probably flagged it.  I know live it sure surprised me.

I finally watched the game. The game sealing play to me looked fine. It was described as "acting hurt", the player just ran to the side after the ready for play and it appeared he was "off the line" (the Boyle student broadcast hadn't panned out to see the whole field). Great heads up by the coaching staff.

Besides teaching a big part of coaching is putting your players into position to win. Look at the total touches for Williams and Lorenzen. Something has got to change guys. 3 games against talented teams the O is averaging 23 points a game. Game plan is broke fix it please.

Williams had 18 touches.  12 carries and 6 receptions.  That's not bad for a HS game.  He had 60 yards Rushing and 39 yards receiving.

Lorenzen threw the ball once, Ran it 5 times and had 1 reception (I also recall him getting a PI vs Boyle at least once as well).  That is only 7 touches and I see your point there.  But he only had 9 yards on 5 carries.  30 yards on one reception.  I could see getting Lorenzen more passes thrown at him.  Boyle seemed very geared to stop him between the tackles.

What kind of offers does Willliams/Lorenzen have for college?  Driver has every offer known to man and had 1 catch for 84 yards. Boyle doubled Highlands up on total yardage in this game.  I get what you are saying though it can get confusing sometimes when you see the amount of touches and targets and who is on the field and who isn't.  I see it with a lot of teams not just Highlands.

Litmer had a nightmare 11 for 31 night.  Were Lorenzon’s touches limited by an ineffective passing game, great Boyle coverage, bad offensive scheme, or some combination?

Someone just told me that Commissioner Tackett has taken a stance on this play.

Anyone?

Watched the whole game then watched again. The better team did not win the game, but the better coaching staff did. Good luck to both going forward, kudos to both for having the guts to put the game on the schedule.

Excuse me, sorry but I thought the coaching staff was part of the team. Boyle doubled up Highlands on yardage gained and won the game. Are you judging the teams on who looked better on paper? This is not a beauty contest or a look test. Results, not excuses only matter.

Did that someone say what his stance was?
