First, let me tell you,.  Less than a year ago, I had a brain bleed which caused a stroke and heart and I spent 5 days in the hospital. So, you and my wife are correct. I'm not right. ☺️Now back to football.

If you or any body  figure out who I am so be it.I'm the Roller that nobody knows. I'm Gary Roller played foot ball my Frosh year and didn,t play any more. You might hear some names that sound familiar. My nephews are Brandon, Greg, Andrew. All three played both ways .Brandon got 3 rings and he played for Dale in 2007 2008 and 2009. Yea, he got plenty of Highlands bling.  Greg got a ring after winning the  state title game, final score 7to 3. I think coach  Hermann was the head coach. Remember , I'm might be wrong. Brandon got D1 from ARMY but did not accept it. Brandon was a three year starter at LB and tight end. Not sure about Andrews rings. I assume nephews count as relatives.
I have four brothers. George ,Bill,  Dave (passed away), Steve  .I know Bill has 2 rings one from 68 and one from 70.Coach Murphy was head in 70 not sure about 68. Brothers count as
relatives, right? If I missed any body I'm sorry. The moral of the story is the Rollers have lots of rings. Do you under stand now.

.

Steve was a senior when I was a sophomore.  Greg’s coach was Tom Duffy.

What a game. The trick play where Drakeford fakes running off the field to the side line on 4th and 8. Boyle County decides to throw the ball to Drakeford and he catches it. Highlands had no more timeouts. Ball game. Wow!

This play still blows my mind.  Have to give Haddix a ton of credit for having the guts to call it in that situation.  99% of coaches are probably too fearful to call it in that situation.  The trust he put in a sophomore QB with first start to make that throw on 4th and 9 in own territory.  The trust in receiver to make that catch/play that they haven't targeted since the 1st game.   If that play doesn't work how different does this thread look today.

That was a brilliant call by Haddix. Another reason play worked was Haddix picked up on Highlands lack of attentiveness by players and coaches. And honestly, not sure outcome would have been any different. Highlands couldn't move the ball the previous possessions due to some panic play calling imo.

Hopefully Highlands can learn from this game and these 2 teams can meet again in the playoffs! Hopefully!

Just watched. I’m 99% sure it’s an illegal play.

Rule 9, Section 6 Article 4, d:

To use a player, replaced player, substitute, coach, athletic trainer or other attendant in a substitution or pretended substitution to deceive opponents at or immediately before the snap or free kick.

Stuff like this is lame. Trick plays that are about players faking coming off the field are cheap stuff. To me it’s dishonorable but whatever. I like trick plays but that is no different than stealing signals.

I brought up “deception” when this play was discussed. I still haven’t seen the play. I will make a point to watch it tomorrow. Bob Sphire made a comment about the play in the Lexington Herald Leader. It’s a pretty good quote. Just reading about it, seems illegal.

That play has been used over the last 50+ years. If it's illegal, wouldn't the powers in charge deem that it was illegal and penalize the team that called it.

It's only illegal if the officials at the game say it's illegal, if you know what I mean.

50 years ago we all had the “3 in 4 out” play.  I, too, thought it was made illegal.  If it was flagged BC would have drawn a 5 yard penalty and then punted.  If not, you have what happened or incomplete and Birds ball deep.  If illegal makes Haddix even a bigger gambler.

It's actually a 15 yard penalty for illegal participation. Even bigger deal.

I'm not sure when the rule changed, but the rule definitely was added to prevent this.

Was the So. QB the Boyle punter all night, or just on this play?  If not, hmmmm.?

Driver punted most of the night but it really doesn't matter as anyone can punt. Boyle used quick kicks by QB in the past, as do other teams.

None of those happened in that play. It was a timeout and as all teams do Boyle huddled on the sideline. When the ready to play whistle blew the team headed out to the ball with everyone passing the numbers. Nothing was said but Drakford for Boyle jogged to the sideline and stood with his back to the formation (which is completely legal). There was no pretend substitution and no one aided him in the play. Everything about it follows the rules that are in place. The fact that he got so wide Highlands lost him and yes turning aids in the losing part but that is also again a perfectly legal position to line up in.

It's fine. You can have your opinion. But he literally jogs to the sideline and stands pretending to talk to a coach, with his shoulders completely parallel to the sideline. It is an intent to deceive with a pretended substitution. I'm probably the opposite of a Highlands fan, but this was an illegal play, and would have made a huge difference in a close game.

A play action is an intent to deceive.  A reverse is an intent to deceive.  The player was on the field the whole time and never left the field and was lined up where a receiver could be lined up legally so what is illegal about it?  How is it a pretend substitution if he never leaves the field?  They caught Highlands on it.  Ole Miss got UK on the same play a few years ago.
