It sounds like Trey wants the Bengals to negotiate against themselves.  It's my understanding that an offer was made that would increase his 2025 salary.  Trey either didn't like that number or wanted more years tacked on.  He is under contract for this year.  I think he could even be tagged next year.  The Bengals don't care if he sits out the preseason, it gives the younger guys more reps.  If he sits out the entire season it saves the team $16M.  Trey has no leverage.

He has no leverage.  Which also explains why he would use the media to his advantage.  Bengals have a reputation and he is using it against them.  We are only hearing one side of this negotiation.  If he sits all season, he doesn’t get paid.  Bengals retain his rights.  He gets another year older.  I have no fear that he plays.  

Let me think…..I want a contract that binds you to pay me a certain guaranteed amount, but doesn’t bind me to fulfill my side of the contract unless I want to.  Hmmmm….certainly is an interesting concept of a contract.

To me it is one of the negatives of Pro Football.  

NFL contracts are wild.  Geno Stone takes a pay cut or gets cut.  Where does that money go?   At the moment it hasn’t been redistributed.  When NFL organizations have that kind of power, how can we blame any player from trying to squeeze more money out of the organization when they outperform their current deal?  I see both sides of it, is all I am saying.

I see both sides too.  It is all frustrating.  Part of me wishes everyone played on a one year deal with some type of injury protections.  Or two year deals with no changes. I don't know..

Complicated stuff.  For sure.  Most frustrating to me is watching other teams figure it out on the regular.  While my team struggles with it year after year.
