I agree in the past but I think even you would have to admit that this years SEC from top to bottom was by far the strongest of the conferences and it was not really even close especially in the ACC and Big 12. The Big 10 had strong upper part but their bottom 8 all except Nebraska all had losing records over all.

On the portal, technically these are student-athletes so the first responsibility of the portal should be to give the student-athletes the ability to transfer schools and not interrupt their education.

Totally disagree, there is no such thing that exists any longer. These are now employees of said University. Not a student-athlete.

What I do think the portal/NIL does do is cut into depth, but more importantly, it disrupts team chemistry. The top talents will still reside in the SEC. I do not see that changing because of the infrastructure and level of commitment these programs have. However, the lack of cohesion may be disrupted with kids transferring schools. Some teams can gel more quickly which is why you may see an ASU or IU come out of nowhere to suddenly being in the playoffs.

I think we have to start adding a Universities endowment to the picture.  

Texas #1 Public School $44 Billion endowment

ND $16 Billion

OSU #6 Public School $7 Billion

PSU # 11 Pubic 4 Billion

They aren't spending endowment money on football, at least not in NIL. Those endowments allow everything else on the campus run including med schools, law schools, engineering schools and business schools. These are the four areas of most universities whose alumni have provided for those endowments.

Any fiscally responsible school, isn't going to blow any amount of their endowment on NIL.

For example, I don’t see the Ivies ponying up massive endowment dollars for football.  To your point, their priorities lie elsewhere.

I don't see really any of the schools gambling endowment money on NIL  and the off chance they might win a trophy. 

The schools with the biggest endowments also have the most deep pocket boosters to get NIL from...so they'll never even have to think about it.  The schools with smaller endowments won't even entertain the idea of using that money on NIL. They've spent 50, 75 or even over 100 years growing that endowment, they aren't going to turn it into a fleet of Hellcats parked at the football facility.

Endowments mean you have folks associated with the school with deep pockets.

I get that monies won't be taken out of the "endowment fund" for NIL purposes...but if you don't think that having Billions of dollars sitting there doesn't give University presidents/Ad's/Board of Regents who want to win "Big" the ability to be creative with cash flow you are crazy.

You can see this in HS football...!

Take Texas...if they have 40 Billion in endowment sitting in a simple account making 3% interest...that is 1.2 Billion.

Take 5% of 1.2 Billion and that is 60 million dollars (I know these are not real numbers and how all the business works...but you get my drift).  

So a university decides they can take 5% of the interest made from their endowment to give to the AD.  

It's not that simple, but the power of the dollar is what is most important in this new age.

I guess that is why of OSU DB's transferred out of the SEC to the Big 10, Beck just left UGA for Miami, I think we are watching the collapse of the SEC empire right before our very eyes. NIL and Transfer portal is going to see to that. 

So are you saying that OSU, ND, USC, PSU, Miami, and other schools, do not have the infrastructure or level of commitment?

No. I didn’t say every ounce of talent will reside in the SEC. The traditional powers (which is what you listed) of college football will continue to get theirs, just like the SEC will, which is my point. For 18 straight years the SEC has led the NFL draft in players going on to the next level. And some years they are lapping the field. The SEC by their standards was “bad” this year. But by most metrics the depth was still there compared to others (up top was weaker). People acting like the conference  will turn into the Big 12, I believe, are off base.

That hurt since I am WVU fan.  I think since Saban left Alabama, I don't think they made the right hire, so I see the fall of Alabama taking place, I seen highlights of that this week. Secondly, I do feel that schools, like those I mentioned which have big donors for NIL will continue to get top talent and will recruit well from the portal. For me as a WVU fan, it is exciting that McAfee and Kendrick (Owner of the Dbacks and Suns) is going to open up the checkbook for NIL. I do believe the days of SEC leading in the NFL draft will slowly begin to dwindle, but I don't believe the SEC will become the ACC (I think the Big XII is better).
