Notre Dame vs. Georgia Predictions/Updates (2024-25 CFP)

This Quarterfinal Matchup is at the Sugar Bowl on 1-1-25 at 845pm (new time 4pm on 1-2-25).  The Bulldogs are currently a 1.5 point favorite.  Notre Dame is the #7 seed and Georgia is the #2 seed.  This is the one quarterfinal game where the college football powers that be and Vegas agree. 🙂

Georgia wins.

Marcus Freeman's contract extension tells the entire program they are on the right track and will have the support to get the job done. That can have a powerful impact on a football team.... any organization.  It also eliminates a bunch of distractions and allows the players and coaches to focus on one play/rep at a time. I believe Notre Dame will play their best game of the season in this matchup.

The big unknown is the Georgia QB situation. It looks like Sophomore Gunnar Stockton will get the nod after guiding UGA to the SEC Title in the second half after Beck's injury.

I'd expect ND to dial up quite a bit of pressure and mix defenses often to keep Stockton from getting comfortable. 

It could come down to how much can Georgia impose their will and run the ball.

Notre Dame's defense has so far looked much better than I've seen from them in years. 

I expect a close game and while I'd think Georgia could control things up front on both sides, I think Notre Dame may hold their own up front.

I'll say Georgia 31 Notre Dame 27, with 3 minutes to go.

This is going to be another good game. I looked at Notre Dame more badly longer than I should have. They have been playing very good football lately and I think they can win. I’ll have my crow if I’m wrong but I really like how they have played lately under Freeman and I really like Freeman as a coach.

I think this is the best team, by far that ND will face this year. Stockton showed what he could do in the SEC championship game, so I have no issues with him taking the reins in this one. I think UGA's defense is going to be the difference in this game. UGA's front 7 maybe the best in the nation. Plus, with ND losing their most potent pass rusher, I think that hurts ND. I think UGA wins, and I would not be surprised if they win by double digits. That's right you heard it here first folks.

This could be the game (season) where we find out if Kirby is really going to be the next Saban. Without his starting QB, this game will test the coaching prowess of Smart.

I think Notre Dame wins this game if Georgia still has their starting QB. As I don’t believe this Georgia team was as good this year as previous Georgia teams. I still have a hard to getting past how a bad UK team should have beat Georgia this year. So unless Georgia’s backup QB comes in and gives a whole new dynamic to the Georgia offense, then I think Notre Dame wins.
