This job is either really important and the sheer number of appropriate applicants is so great that they are truly stumped on their decision making or we are all making a mountain out of a mole hill when we talk about the Red Devils football program and apparently nobody of deemed substance has stepped up to the table for the board. Can we just call it already, the suspense has been drawn out way too long, creeping up into the middle of February.

Why would they leave the good/great jobs they are already in?

If you look at other elite programs in KY or Texas, Georgia they spend $$ to get their program where they need to be. I just don't think OHS does that. Look at how long this job search taking. It's beyond sad to me and it's getting annoying. So to me this is not an attractive job.

Alabama, too. But you’re right. 
 

They also aren’t teaching or if they are, they might have a couple classes a day & if those couple classes are in school weights? They also have some of their assistants in there with them as well. 
 

Not to mention many of them are making 100K+ & some of those are closer to the 200K mark than they are the 100k.

I don't think it is about Owensboro specifically; I think people would be surprised by the lack of overall applicants for any coaching job, much less desirable/qualified applicants. The expectation that coaches will uproot their families at an established job to jump to a new school with a reputation as a better football school is not as realistic as you see at the college and professional level. Then take into account that in almost all of the schools across the state, the compensation is virtually equal, it doesn't make sense to leave a place where you are happy. 

In other parts of the country where football coaches are making 100K or more to just coach, it is more common to see a lot of qualified candidates for a job opening. However, those are the same jobs where the administration will show you the door if you struggle and have a couple of bad seasons. 

To use Texas as an example, go check the link below & he is just an assistant & not a coordinator (I say “just” to emphasize what his schedule is during the day).

Take note of the times during the day and doing what.

1- Underclassmen practice in the morning, during the day. (1st block)

2- He teaches 2 classes (2nd & 3rd block)

3- 4th block? “Planning”, AKA, get ready for the Varsity football practice 

Forney HS isn’t even a powerhouse. Solid program? 5-7 win on average program, and that’s just been in the last few years- with 13 win season in ‘23.

Did OHS run a 60 day posting on Indeed that they are waiting to expire ? No reason with the candidates mentioned they shouldn’t have came to a conclusion already. 

The bottom line is whoever gets this job has a ridiculously good opportunity to get off to a fantastic start.  The center, right side of the offensive line, and the 4 star back with 40 D1 offers have been inseparable since they were 7th graders.  Ty Ashley is an incredible talent with a work ethic to go along with it.  That is a base that any new coach could only dream about.

An O lineman transfer from OC is now enrolled to bolster that line.  There are rumors that the QB1 at Apollo is awaiting this hire to make a decision about potentially transferring for a title run which would allow Ashley to strictly play LB.

There is a ton of good over on Frederica St. right now.  But the way the admin has handled this is insanely poor.  Zero communication with the players, coaches, and parents.  Total secrecy regarding the process.  

The exits from the program over the last 5 years are concerning.  Crowe, Hunt, Griffith, Bratcher, Maddox.  There are rumors of Morris jumping ship.  Rumors are only that and I don't know the exact situations with their departures but I know they're gone.  There are some strong personalities in that group of parents but there isn't anything wrong with that.  Dealing with parents is part of being the coach and if you can't handle that, then coaching might not be for you.  

Everyone is tired of waiting.  But they need to get it right.  I'm not gonna speculate on who it will be.  I have a pretty good idea of who was interviewed and I have an opinion but hey, we all know what opinions are like.  Whoever it is, their first job is to rally the players around each other, then rally the parents around the players, and rally the rest of the fan base around the entire program.  Let's get it right and take this talent to Commonwealth 10 months from now.

@Couch Coach do you think we will really get the Johnson kid at Apollo? I just don't see him leaving after he got those offers.
