Upon further review, I stand corrected.

Now I am more confused than ever. So simply stated, assume Male and Trinity win each of their games in rounds 1 and 2, using the RPI rankings of today, who would their round 3 opponents be?

We have seen KHSAA RPI enough the past couple years to know it has flaws that go beyond out of state opponents.

  • I'm glad you pointed that out. I've seen some confusion about the bracketing. Below is from the KHSAA with an explanation along with the district breakdowns. https://khsaa.org/2023-and-2024-curre

If nothing changed with RPI as it sits currently, Male at Frederick Douglass & either Madison Central or Bryan Station would play at Trinity (depends on which would get the 2 seed out of their district.  I can’t see either losing to the district 7 champ.)

Absolutely too complex for this petrified brain to do end of season “what ifs” ; but that Male vs Manuel last game could have a lot of home team impact in Round 3.

Male/Trinity are on the "west" side, so they wouldn't play any "east" teams until 4th round.

For postseason competition, in Class 6A, for 2024, Districts 3 and 6 will be cross-bracketed as Region 2 for playoffs and Districts 4 and 5 will be cross-bracketed as Region 3 for playoffs.

WEST SIDE OF BRACKET

  • District 1 – Christian County, Daviess County, Henderson County, McCracken County
  • District 2 – Barren County, Central Hardin, North Hardin, Warren Central
  • District 3 – DuPont Manual, Meade County, Pleasure Ridge Park, St. Xavier
  • District 6 – Campbell County, Great Crossing, Ryle, Simon Kenton

EAST SIDE OF BRACKET

  • District 4 – Bullitt East, Fern Creek, Male, Southern
  • District 5 – Ballard, Eastern, Oldham County, Trinity (Louisville)
  • District 7 – Henry Clay, Lafayette, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Tates Creek
  • District 8 – Bryan Station, Frederick Douglass, George Rogers Clark, Madison Central

I believe districts 4 & 5 are considered region 3 according to the KHSAA so they go with the East & region 4, which will be districts 7 & 8.

Big question is Boyle vs Douglass and how that can change RPI ratings in 6A. Male vs Manual is huge as well. Travel plans are difficult to tie down until 11/2 for third round.

Just looked at that Douglas/Boyle game to speculate the RPI negative impacts for Douglas.  Given Boyle is an outstanding team (many might argue best in Ky) and is a game that many would love to see.  Win and Douglas’ RPI probably goes down (lower class penalty).  Lose and your RPI craters.  Hmmmm!?

Do what? Did you look at the actual RPI? Boyle's RPI is higher than everyone in 6A, as is Corbin!

This is why we are so high in 6A RPI, as a 3 loss team. No out of state teams and very few teams below .55000 in RPI.

GRC will do us no favors, but Corbin/Boyle/BG  wins this weekend absolutely will help offset GRC's lower RPI. Our losses have been to high performing teams, whose RPIs actually help our strength of schedule. However, losing to Boyle coupled with an H win over M, and a X win over BG absolutely puts us under both X and H in RPI.

Trinity won 42-0 over Oldham tonight and Douglass defeated GRC 35-0 and they flipped positions in the RPI after tonight's games.

Trinity doesn't have any games left so they shouldn't change much other than opponents component. St. X and Male can still move up some with St. X playing Bowling Green and Male playing Manual. Also Ryle or St. X will be eliminated in the 2nd round of playoffs since they will most likely play each other barring a 1st round upset.

A lot could still change but going off current RPI, the 3rd round matchups would be:

Male at Frederick Douglass

Bryan Station at Trinity

North Hardin at Ryle

McCracken Co at Manual

Projecting a lot… I’m not disappointed with St. X’s RPI position at this point.
