Back in the late 70's the NBA was faltering. Magic and Larry did not like each other either. However, they parleyed that intense rivalry into a life long friendship and basically saved the NBA. 

Angel and Catlin have a chance to do for the WNBA what Magic and Larry did for the NBA. Maybe I am missing the big picture and that is exactly what is happening. It sure looks like they and the powers that be are missing the boat, though. 

 

I don’t have an opinion about the rivalry, but what has become very apparent to me is that there are a lot of ballers in the WNBA.  Without Caitlin I am not sure I would have ever tuned in.  Now to watch her I have come to appreciate the quality of the game they actually play.  Sure hope this tide raises the level to where these athletes can actually financially thrive.  Saw the other day that the league’s players combined make less than half of what Lebron’s annual salary is with the Lakers.

Today, Clark has the first ever triple double by a WBA rookie and the first ever triple double by a member of the Indiana Fever - 19 points, 13 assists, 12 rebounds.

I turned it on just when she got the 10th rebound and the crowd at the game was electric. 

It’s kinda wild no rookie has ever had a triple double. Both of those stats are pretty crazy to me.

When I heard the announcers say it I was very surprised. 

Silenced the haters that said Clark was nothing but a 3 point shooter.

One of the things most apparent to me is that her teammates have come to learn to keep moving and keep their heads on a swivel.  Caitlin commits a lot of turnovers, many because her teammates were just not expecting it was coming their way.  She’s far from perfect but the weight of running the offense is becoming less forced as everyone seems to be adjusting to her decision making.

The WNBA has secured a new deal that will triple their media rights, with the potential to be more.

This study comes after the Common Sense Institute in Iowa projected Clark's economic impact on her home state was $82.5 million over her four-year college career at Iowa. Increased attendance at Iowa women's basketball games added between $14.4 million and $52.3 million to the economy, according to the study, and other increased consumer spending in relation to Clark's stardom in the state amounted to the $82.5 million.
