January 25, 200719 yr :sssh: :sssh: Did you hear that??????????????????? It was the sound of several high school recruits passing on UK!! Vandy is a good team. Georgia is a good team. UK is a good team?? Shouldn't we be a VERY good team?? I couldn't watch the second half but why did I need to? How could we screw that lead up? I usually take Tubby's side...he has the SEC titles, National Rankings, Win Streaks, etc. to back him up. A 10 loss season for sure....but this team can still make noise in the tourney. We were SO, SO, SO close to beating Michigan State and UCONN in the field of 64. Tubby CAN take care of it......but something has to change. Recruiting. Lineup decisions, Play calling (when they do it), I dont know... His seat may not be HOT yet, but it is certainly warming up. :fire: :fire:
January 25, 200719 yr I was pleasantly suprised in how the fans did not rush the court, that means that they won a game they should....that's not good for UK.
January 25, 200719 yr So the question is, if UK can't beat Vandy or UGA, who CAN they beat on the remaining schedule? We'll say SC is a lock, but after these last two games I don't see any reason they can't lose all the others. There's the problem. The really tough stretch starts with the next game...and we've already lost the two leading up to it. That doesn't bode well.
January 25, 200719 yr Here's one thing I never hear mentioned. If you want to claim the SEC is now at or very close to the top of the hoops world (and it clearly is), you have to realize that means every team is better than when UK was running off 14+ SEC wins. Yes UK has a few roster problems and yes there are fewer NBA level guys in the fold, but even if they had better options this is a tough league to win games... Very good point that not too many realize.:thumb:
January 25, 200719 yr I really think we can walk away with only 2 losses after that schedule... Florida twice...you really think we won't lose any of those other games? I hope you're right.

His seat may not be HOT yet, but it is certainly warming up. :fire: :fire: I said before the season (not necessarily on here) that Tubby didn't necessarily have to do it this year, but next year was becoming a must. After last season's debacle, I didn't have high expecations for this year and thus I didn't think Tubby's seat would be super hot yet. But as they are on their way to a better but not great season, it means that next year Tubby will probably be sweating it. And really, he should be by then with the results of the past several seasons. He's an excellent coach who can't recruit very well, and that's causing problems. His role player classes led to some successful seasons that helped stave off heat, but facing the probability of a second straight year without a Sweet 16 appearance (which would mean three out of the last 4 seasons without an appearance), something has to happen to change perceptions of the program. We live in a fickle world where everyone has a short attention span. Even programs without fanatical fanbases or ultra-high standards such as UK's would not be satisfied with that type of performance. Recruits are watching these games and as sucess breeds sucess, failure breeds the same. Something needs to change, and as some have suggested, maybe it's the assistants. But I'd say a bad ending this year means that Tubby has one year to figure it out before he's on the brink. EDIT: The numbers from the last 7 seasons Failed to make Sweet 16: Three Times (2000, 2004, 2006)(This year would make four: despite some posts, UK will NOT be favored to go there) Sweet 16 Finishes: Two Times (2001, 2002) Elite Eight Finishes: Two Times (2003, 2005)
January 25, 200719 yr Author My post above notwithstanding, as I said earlier in the thread, I choose to believe the first half is where the team is heading, the second half is where they've been and usually are still currently. If UK will play more like the first half in this season and the next, Tubby will be fine and the program will turn around.
January 25, 200719 yr Everyone is talking about UK's style of play.If I was watching the right game, when Ky got their big lead, they were running up and down the floor like crazy.I think they had most of the freshman in at the time except for Crawford. The young guys are more athletic and play hard, the older cats seem to want to walk up and down the floor.Morris is lazy and needs to work more to get the ball.I would like to know when the last time UK has got the tip on a jump ball with him in there. When Stevenson was playing he got it every time.In the overtime jump Morris let the big white kid get the tip on him and that was terrible.Bradley was no where to be found on offense and if he doesn't score some UK is in trouble playing anyone.
January 25, 200719 yr ....15-6 and lost to two teams rated #1, Memphis and yes, lost two straight in the SEC. .... I'm certainly hoping, you are jesting and not serious....I usually enjoy your posts SW2000, but this is not one of them. I awoke this morning, to snow and I'm assuming, that the UK Basketball program was not dismantled overnight. You won't find a more Sports oriented person than I but some of you, analyze each possession, turnover, missed shot, bad pass and crave something to happen, which you can criticize....It's getting tougher to even post in a UK Basketball thread, regardless of win or loss. STRIKE..........you beat me to it in posting/quoting on both of these post. You Da Man!:thumb: I couldn't had said it any better in reply so I will juist quote you and give you a :thumb: . (keep posting though, the bashers would love it if we didn't )
January 25, 200719 yr STRIKE..........you beat me to it in posting/quoting on both of these post. You Da Man!:thumb: I couldn't had said it any better in reply so I will just quote you and give you a :thumb: . (keep posting though, the bashers would love it if we didn't )Thanks and I understand the frustration, that many have. My entire contention, is "its a Season and not a series".....UK hopefully will get better, improve and correct their flaws each game, while preparing for Seeding in the field of 65. 10 Loss seasons, 20 Win seasons, being #1 Seed, #6 Seed, etc.....seem to be the consuming factor. I agree with most others, recruiting is a key area to improve.
January 25, 200719 yr Well Auburn dominated Alabama so theres a win @ Auburn, but the Tide beat the Georgia team that UK choked against...I wouldn't chalk up the Tide as a win for the cats, especially in Tuscaloosa.
January 25, 200719 yr I gave them credit after winning 11 in a row. I was still sketchy about how good this team was. I have said all year this team isnt that good. No you haven't.
January 25, 200719 yr IMO, they will get 3, maybe 4 losses from just UT and UF.... :thumb: Here's what I think will happen the rest of the way... 1/28 - Tennessee = Win 2/3 - @ Arkansas = Loss 2/7 - South Carolina = Win 2/10 - Florida = Loss 2/13 - @ Tennessee = Loss 2/17 - @ Alabama = Loss 2/20 - LSU = Win 2/25 - @ Vanderbilt = Loss 2/28 - Georgia = Win 3/4 - @ Florida = Loss That's my honest opinion of what UK will do down the stretch...what is that...4-6? 5-5 wouldn't surprise me (with the win coming @ Vandy), but I'm going with 4-6. That brings us to 19-11...just speculating from there, I'd say their combined tourny record will likely be 2-2 (maybe 3-2), which bring us to about 21-13 (or 22-13). I figure that's about right. They are better than last year, but maybe not as much as I'd hoped.
