100% we see that but not only Cal but you have at least 5 or 6 other assistants not see that! If you say he won't listen to them that is another problem

He sat last night at the press conference after the loss the same old thing. We always have the youngest team in the tournament and said I have been very successful at developing players and changing kids lives in the NBA. Then he basically said I have another great class coming in and we are going to continue to do the same thing he has been doing. So, I guess we can continue to expect the same result.

In 2021 for example when Baylor won the tournament the average age of their team was 22.4 years old. In 2022 Kansas average age was 22.5. I could not find the average age of UConn's team but I'm pretty sure their average was more than 19.6.

I think this dynamic has been around for at least a decade but it has been supercharged by the NIL and I think there is a lot of truth to it.

It was a miracle they had a chance to win with 4 minutes to go looking at how UK played and how ridiculously hot that one kid was.

I feel bad for Reeves honestly. He got his redemption from last year but was robbed at the same time. 

By the way VOR, we also had 5 seniors and a junior in the top 8 last year, 1 of them the returning national player of the year, but we DID get to the 2nd round!!!!  
9-16 in 20-21, of course didn’t make the tournament .

I completely agree on Cal as great recruiter, just above average as a coach. And the reason he is above average as a coach is team chemistry. He is very good at building team chemistry with super talented freshmen. He is average at best on in game coaching.

All that said, I think it is over the top to say he should have three titles. The best example for why I say that is unrealistic is Dean Smith. In his era, no one had better talent. He won two titles in his career.

Further proof why 3 titles is not realistic at all - in the last ten years UK has 2 final four appearances. Only one school has 3. And I am talking Final Fours, not titles.

1. Reeves 31.5

2. Mitchell 30.2

3. Sheppard 28.9

Can we please just stop the Sheppard not starting talk? Absolute non issue. Outside the 2 veterans, he led the team in minutes.

Yes, it’s tough to win a title, agree, BUT, not unrealistic at all, the 2010 and 2015 teams are the ones I’m saying he should’ve won, absolutely TERRIBLE in game coaching in the West Virginia and Wisconsin losses, from talking to you on here I sincerely believe you and I could’ve coached them to wins in those games.  He did the same thing in both those games as he did last night, panic, looking like a man heading for the gas chamber and it bled over to the kids, just like last night, and last year, and the year before…….      I’ve been told, ( by someone really close to the program) that the 2015 loss just destroyed him, that he’s never been the same since

The quote about being young is over used, and his quote about continuing to recruit young because he wants to help families and kids get to the nba should be enough to turn dans against him. It should’ve 10 years ago but we were still winning. It definitely should turn even the biggest Cal fans against him now. He’s insecure, he wants to win and be best friends with guys in the nba also so the program be damned.

Agree with you on this.  And the Sheppard overall # 1 pick talk needs to stop too.  I love Reed but that’s just not gonna happen unless a GM is looking to get fired.  I remember when Todd May was playing at Pikeville, his coach and a bunch of us were at a coaching clinic and his coach was telling everybody that Marty Blake (who was an NBA scout at the time) told him that Todd would be a 1st round draft choice, I said the same thing about him that I just said about Reed, I love Todd but just don’t see that happening, he’s wwaaayyy too slow laterally and not a great shooter, his coach got REALLY upset and stomped off!!  Todd didn’t get drafted in any round.
