Chip Kelly to Ohio State as Offensive Coordinator

Featured Replies

Apparently Chip Kelly is stepping down as head coach at UCLA and headed to Ohio State to be their offensive coordinator.   Only time will tell, but this seems like it could be great for Ohio State and Chip Kelly.

UCLA must be a terrible place to work, or OSU is set to fire Day and hire Kelly the Sunday after the 2024 loss to Michigan.

Or, both.

Through all of this, I’m just now finding out that he applied for the UC job last year and didn’t get it.

I believe that rumor has been debunked by some UC insiders.

Absolutely no shot they would pick Satterfield over Chip Kelly.

Certainly wouldn’t think so.

UCLA football is a job I cannot figure out. Great weather, great location, unreal stadium and the girls are not to shabby. I get that the west coasters, especially in LA don't care about college sports, but how can you not get top level football recruits to go there? Chip Kelley turned a gimmick in Oregon into a national power, and he couldn't do the same in LA? This is a outstanding pick up for Ohio State in my opinion as long as Kelly and Day can co-exist.

That's what I'm thinking.  Didn't Day say he was going to give up all play calling to the offensive coordinator actually, at the end of last season?

As for UCLA, I don't think LA is as illustrious as it used to be to college athletes.  Times have changed, the internet, easy travel, NIL etc.  Southern California is still beautiful but it's just not the same allure as it once was, in my opinion.

I believe Kelly and Day have worked together previously at a couple of places.

Day was a quarterback for Chip Kelly's New Hampshire Wildcats back in the late 90s.  Day then worked under Kelly with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers.

Not Funny. ?

It could easily be both. I haven’t considered UCLA a very good place for football for quite a while now.

I don't know the answer to this, but is Kelly such a prize?   Does he still have the drive?   If I'm not mistaken, he has not done very well at his last two stops.

If you have ever wondered whether the Peter Principle is true, we might find out.  It's totally different being the CEO of an entire program versus being in charge of only the offense. We shall see.
