I used to be in the get all you can get camp but that has led the NFL down a path of extreme greed.

Just saw Chase was not at Bengal’s practice today.  Zac had no insight in his post-practice media spot.  No idea if this is a change in strategies by Chase, progress or perhaps getting ugly and concerning.

Tony Pike just explained that under the CBA Chase had to be in attendance at training camp the first 3 days to get the $3.8million roster bonus for the 2024 season.  Mission accomplished.  Yesterday’s absence has not been explained, but could very likely a ratcheting up of action to show his seriousness.  Ugh!

We shouldn’t forget that he sat out his entire 3rd year of college to preserve(?) his draft value and avoid injury.  So he has clearly demonstrated that personal business comes ahead of team.  Not criticizing but just stating the obvious.  So a contract is not a contract in today’s world.  Brown is not going to blink…simply because the economics have become economically out of balance.  Risk/reward is going to take large movement by both parties to find extension common grounds.

So I haven't been following this too close.  Do you think that Chase will sit out unless he gets a new contract?  I have no idea on any of this.

I absolutely believe he is prepared to sit out games and I believe Brown is prepared to let him.  Sitting out his last year at LSU shows proof positive that in his mind “the money” comes before “team”.  His rookie contract guaranteed him $30million and he has now collected roughly $29million.  The $60,000 per-game check in 2024 will not be missed by Chase and he is betting a couple early season losses (especially KC) and inter-division will bring Brown around.  This could get ugly for us fans.

Not a good day for the Bengals on the practice field today with the Chicago Bears.  Field was wet with the practice held outside in the rain instead of the Bears indoor facility.  OL D'Ante Smith and RB Chris Evans were both carted off the field with injuries that required air casts on their legs.  RT Trent Brown (who was supposed to be filling in for injured Amarius Mims) left the practice with tightness in his lower back.  Backup QB Jake Browning and P Brad Robbins are also still hurt.  WR Ja'Marr Chase made the trip, but, once again, did not practice.  WR Charlie Jones did return to practice.  Zac Taylor says that he is withholding his starters for Saturday's game with the Bears with the exception of CBs Dax Hill and DJ Turner who are fighting for one of the starting spots.

I hope you are wrong @Oldercoach.  I realize these guys have a very limited window to make their money but to us fans when it is always something (negative) it takes away some of the fun.

Couldn't tell you just know what Lance posted on Facebook. 

The more I think about this, the more I think the Bengals should go ahead and give Chase the big contract. His price will never be lower than it is right now. Perhaps the issue is where to slot Chase's deal compared to Jefferson's deal? If I am the Bengals, I would match Jefferson's deal plus one dollar. Get it done now, before goofball Jerry Jones makes the price even higher when he signs Cee Dee Lamb.
