Time for everyone to wake up and realize this isn't Mike Brown's team anymore, and hasn't been for several years. The cheap team take is done. Doesn't apply anymore. If there was any doubt at all, I thought Burrow's contract ended that view once and for all, but old beliefs die hard.

Look at what the Bengals have done in the free agent pool for the last several years. The Bengals are paying people and bringing in free agents who can choose any team. The Chiefs let Tyreek Hill go. The Bengals signed Orlando Brown away from the Chiefs. Are the Chiefs cheap? The Bengals signed top free agent safety Geno Stone away from the Ravens. Are the Ravens cheap? They are cheaper than the Bengals in those cases.

It's over people. Cheap DOES NOT APPLY to the Bengals! Join the new era of the Bengals that has been in motion for arguably a decade, maybe even more.

Now with the Burrow contract, the Bengals are getting to the tough payroll decision position. Just like the Chiefs, Ravens, et al, you can't sign every top player. Good players like Higgins will not be signed. But it won't be because the Bengals are cheap.

Cannot argue that the Bengals have spent the necessary money to attract quality free agents they did not have.  However, Mike Brown is still 100% in control and I just don’t see him paying up just to put a smile on Chase’s face and giving him an unnecessary feel good moment.  He doesn’t have to and I thought he has him contracted for 2 years with no guarantees and 2 franchise years if he desires.  Sure hope I am wrong, but Chase has little to no leverage and Brown is betting his pride and loyalty to teammates will win the stalemate.

Defensive tackle would very much be in play for me if I was the Bengals. They need an interior pass rush, and where they are picking they could possibly get a good one. Obviously after free agency tho

If T doesn't get a long term contract, it will be because T doesn't want to be in Cincinnati. With the increase in the salary cap, the money is there for a long term deal.

  • Word now is that he's signing a 1 year deal with the Bengals.

Whose is it then I went and googled and ask that he is the president and it is true that is daughter and son-in-law handle a lot of day to day operations but what I saw he has final say on who is paid and how much. He knew if he failed to give Burrow a huge contract he would have been run out of town and been the laughing stock of the national media.

So is everyone saying that Chase is just going to sit all preseason and not participate at all and then just start playing when the season begins. If so what has he actually accomplished? If that is what happens I hope he don't end up with a soft tissue injury going from just conditioning on his own and then in live game sustain an injury. That is one thing I would 100% be glad to be wrong on.

See the post above. It isn't just the Burrow contract. The Bengals have been signing top level free agents for several years.

This year they signed OT Trent Brown, S Geno Stone and DT Sheldon Rankins. Those are all quality players. They also added on one year deals TE Gesicki (he will make an impact), RB Zach Moss and brought Vonn Bell back.

2023 - Huge signing of one of the best LT in the NFL away from Kansas City Orlando Brown. Also re-signed LB Pratt to a new 3 year deal.

2022- Rebuilt 0-line with free agents Cappa and Karras along with La'Ell Collins (didn't work out but the Bengals weren't cheap, gave him a big 3 year deal), re-signed DT BJ Hill who has been excellent; added Hayden Hurst on a one year deal that was a nice add.

2021 - Trey Hendrickson 4 year deal (what an awesome signing!), CB Awuzie, CB Mike Hilton

2020 - DJ Reader and Vonn Bell the first time around for both

I could keep going but hopefully it is clear the Bengals aren't cheap!

No where have I hinted that the Bengals are blatantly cheap.  WR is a high injury risk position.  Chase is locked up for 2 years under contract with the franchise tag options still there for 2 more.  My point is Brown is a shrewd cookie and bringing a feel good smile to Chase’s face with guarantees, bonuses, escrows, and a contract extension are not his style.  I just can’t visualize the economic risk/reward for the Bengals.

Cody Rhodes was my first thought when I saw Joe's new color.

Burrow played one series and was 5/7 for 51 yards and touchdown to Higgins for 10 yards.

They looked good on that drive. But they said on the broadcast that was mostly against the Bucs twos.  Either way, glad to see Burrow get the reps and have success.

As far as preseason games go, that was a really good one.  Big crowd.  Exciting 4th quarter.

Who Dey!!

Bengals had no run game. The defense gave up a bunch of yards.

I broke down and watched the preseason game the other night but as far as any other Bengals off season chatter, I am not the go to guy anymore.  Give me the regular season and the rest of the time I don't want to hear much about the greedy NFL.

You wouldn't like hearing about the greedy Trent Brown then. Sounds like another La'El Collins. Will show up enough to get paid.
