Does anyone have Coach Odom's resume?

Where has he been coaching the past few years?

When was he head coach at Simon Kenton? In the 1990's?

If I remember correctly, he left teaching and was part owner/President of a manufacturing company.

As a high schooler, Tim famously went over and played at Moeller in the era when Ohio still allowed students who lived out of state to participate in athletics. Then in '78 or '79 the OHSAA created a

I think it is one of the more interesting moves I have seen in a while. Odom's are all great dudes. I haven't really thought of it until this happened ...but Coach Odom's work at SK had a ton to

https://nkytribune.com/2023/12/tim-odom-returns-to-northern-kentucky-high-school-football-as-first-head-coach-of-st-henry-program/

Article says he last coached in 2009 at Lakota West before moving into the business world. He always planned to get back into coaching and was looking for an opportunity for next year. He thought it would be as an assistant coach somewhere but this opportunity presented itself. There were 30 applicants for the job.

He said there are 45 players signed up for JV next year and 165 kids in the middle school program.

Sounds like St. Henry will be a force to reckon with from the get go.

I like his attitude. Does anyone know if he’s more of an offensive or defensive coach? He’s up for adapting to his teams abilities or forcing his teams to play “his way”? This is exciting. It’s always nice to get a a guy that is all in instead of using it as a stepping stone job.

165 middle schoolers? That would make them the biggest middle school program in NKY. That seems like a REALLY big number.

Roughly, how many kids are in the CCH middle school program?

Odom also said in the N Ky Tribune article that a high percentage of the 180 students taking the freshman entrance exam are coming from non feeder schools which he thought is a good sign of interest.

I very much doubt any person that applied for this job viewed it as a stepping stone job. The attraction of this job was going to a very good school that has been successful in athletics in other sports, and getting a chance to literally build the program with their own vision from the ground up. So no matter who they hired, I doubt anyone would have used it as a stepping stone type job.

Campbell or Cov Cath? I think Campbell typically has around 70-80 in their middle school program and along with Twenhofel are usually the two biggest. I'm not sure about Cov Cath...I haven't seen their 8th grade team  since they moved to the GCL, but I would think right around 100.

Which is why this number seems so big for St Henry...it would almost mean every eligible boy is playing football.

The 180 number for MS has to be a misquote.   I know they had nearly that play fall flag which is grades 1-8.  I have heard 65 or so have signed up for MS.

I think the 165 number comes from the flag football program they had.  CYF's numbers at about 25 per team 3-8 would put them at 150.  No doubt, Tim will be working the hallways for kids already in the building and I expect those numbers to be big because Tim will recruit is butt off.  I think the harder sell is going to be the middle school program.  There are just not that many bodies in St. Henry's traditional feeders to really form a team even if they grabbed every kid that plays in CYF from their feeders, which they won't.  This is the reason you don't see HC or NCC having their own feeders and if they want to play even in the lower division of GCYFL then they can't rely on any public school kids.  My guess is if they can field a middle school team they will play in the small division of the NKMSAA.

There are about 180-200 in Cov. Cath Youth Football as of last year.

And I can tell you that number will be down as a number of kids will be moving  to the St. Henry Youth Program.  And to someone’s earlier point, I can totally see non-feeder kids that want to play football flocking to St. Henry in droves.

And in regard to the hiring of Coach Odom….how can anyone at all not think is absolutely a grand slam of a hire.  Wow.  St. Henry crushed it on this hire especially for a start-up program.

St. Henry making pretty much every right move so far and I believe they will be competitive in 2-3 years and not a more typical 5-7 year timeframe especially with the hiring of Coach Odom.  Congrats on this spectacular hiring!!

Here are a couple of things from that article that caught my attention:

Odom said he was one of more than 30 applicants for the St. Henry head coaching position. He decided to apply after visiting workouts the high school has been conducting for students who want to be part of the new football program. The team will practice and play home games on a modern synthetic turf field.

and

“It’s a physical group,” Odom said of Class 2A. “And, of course, Beechwood is one of them that’s the cream of the crop, so it’s going to be awesome. To be the best, you’ve got to beat the best.”

As a Beechwood fan, St Henry can't get here fast enough. The district needs more competitive teams and I expect St. Henry to quickly become a solid competitor.

The current district is a disaster for Beechwood. Five required games limits scheduling and with Walton-Verona's tough year there were no quality RPI wins. I am interested in seeing what the district reshuffling looks like in 2025 when St. Henry joins district play.

I agree the current district is a disaster for Beechwood and more than ever we are seeing a separation between the good football schools and the not so good football schools.

I’ll ask again. Does anyone know what kind of coach he is, more offense or defense? Does he like to call plays on one side of the ball?
