Texas A&M next head coach?

Featured Replies

There was a thread about Jimbo Fischer being fired and who the next head coach would be but it seems like this needed its own thread.

Lots of big names being thrown around including Georgia's Kirby Smart.  Kentucky's Mark Stoops has been mentioned and certainly looks more appealing after the win over Louisville.

What's everyone's thoughts?  Will the Aggies make a splash with a big name hire?

  • Stoops was hired by A&M admin and fired by the boosters in less than 6 hours.  Tuff gig!?

  • I understand how it ended, but six 10 win seasons in his tenure, the BCS title, a couple Orange Bowl wins…. He did very, very well. Jimbo’s problem became his rigidity. He believes in his system and r

  • Only thing I can think of is that they know less about Elko than Stoops which may work in his favor, at least for a little bit.

I hope they do hire Stoops. I think he would be crazy to leave UK though. One of the highest paid coaches, and will never be in true jeopardy of losing his job.

Stoops is not a serious candidate for TAMU.

I wouldn't think so either, but evidently the guys on Gameday think otherwise.

I can't see Stoops either.  Especially not with Texas coming in the conference.

After today's loss (3rd in a row) there is talk about Ryan Day going to A&M. Not sure but it is being discussed in certain circles.

Hes not leaving because no one is paying him $9 million to not win conference games, especially in the SEC.

For some reason, I'd thought Day was an Ohio State alumni.  I could see him leaving, however if he can't beat Harborough, I'm not sure why he or the Aggies would expect him to be able to beat Kirby Smart or Nick Saban.

Also with that said, in next years format, Ohio State probably still makes the playoffs even with the loss to Michigan.

Does that mean Jim Harbaugh is looking at horse farms in the greater Lexington area?   LOL

You think with better talent, deeper recruiting base and a pile of NIL cash that he'd have the same success or worse at A&M as he's had here?

That said, SEC ain't getting any easier with Texas and Oklahoma coming in and the league going away from divisions.

Jimbo Fisher, whose won a National Title, was run out of A&M. Unless you think Sroops is a better coach than Jimbo, why would you think he would have more success?

Stoops small $4 million buyout if he leaves for another job is like a McDonald's cheeseburger with what they are paying Fisher.
