I'm fairly sure that Matt Bertasso, who was the Principal at the time, had little, if any, knowledge about anything regarding the game of football, other than being on the field as a drum major, with the band, at halftime during his high school years.  As Principal, he was much more focused on the arts and academics as he should have been.  To state that he had the sole responsibility of hiring a head football coach at Highlands, is ridiculous.

Yes, my tongue was planted firmly in my cheek with that response.  The current AD, Sphire's former player at Lex Cath, is the one responsible for bringing coach Sphire to the attention of the HHS football community during the search for a new head coach.  While Matt Bertasso may have had some part in putting a job package together, he was hardly the driving force behind the hire.

That’s part of it. But Highlands wanted to hire somebody who had prior HC experience and at the time, the only experience Bathiany had was being a DC at Tiffin and Denison.

I think there probably is a better chance of him taking over a top private school team in Louisville that will be open after their season ends, as mentioned in the Male opening thread.  As he can enjoy his retirement from public schools, and then make extra moving to private schools now.

No way Sphire is leaving unless it's on his terms. If Wolfe was interested and the Birds job was open, why are you a no go? I know he is a Highlands guy but that is all I know.

You're put in charge of hiring the next head coach, and you have a magic wand that gets you any 4 coaches that are currently in the high school coaching ranks around the country interested in interviewing for the job at Highlands. Who are your 4?

Not Bathiany or bust.  Prefer that they hire someone who has not been around the block several times.
