Too true. 

People won't want to hear it because it's Caitlin Clarke but she deserved the technical. Been called for a technical for the exact same thing on more than on occasion. She was throwing the ball away because she didn't like the call against Serrano. Easy technical. Could/Should they have swallowed the whistle on it, maybe, but I have no issues with the T.

I do think they should have hit Reese with a technical for blatantly taunting. However, all the talk about Reese being classes because of it is dumb. Calling her classes for supposedly flicking off Iowa fans while walking into the stadium? That might stick.

In regards to the game, I've only watched two women's basketball games in my life, both of Iowa's last two games. I felt pretty confident that LSU was going to get the win yesterday. Iowa looked gassed down the stretch against South Carolina, specifically Serrano. From what I knew of LSU, I thought that they'd have trouble going up against another very talented big in back to back games.

LSU hit a lot of shots, they don't normally hit. Couple that with a lot of foul trouble. I was entertained by both Iowa's games. Not sure I'll be tuning in to to many games next year, but if Iowa is televised and I am free, I'll watch some.

CC is a big girl... She doesn't need you or anybody else to suddenly take issue with trash talking because you don't like who did it.

LSU won the game because they - a relatively poor shooting team - couldn't miss for a stretch of the game. They built the lead and it was too much to overcome.

On the technical, why didn't the LSU player get a T when she purposefully set the ball on the floor after a timeout call? Just asking for consistency because I  see that as very similar to Clark passing the ball to the baseline. 

Personally, no way in that game either of those acts by the players deserves a T, but if not handing the ball to a ref is a T in that game, then call it consistently.

The part I find funny about the Reese "saga" (I would call it a 24 hour nothing-burger) is that she was held eight points below her season average and Clark was still able to drop 30, despite the loss. That's some Pat Bev stuff. But, to the victor goes the spoils.

If Clarke doesn't wave off the South Carolina guard, I think there's a lot less of this stuff in the Championship game. Everyone on Twitter was loving that Clarke did that. Pretty sure the girl she waved off wound up going 3/6 from three in that game.

This whole thing highlighted for me the dumb rule of awarding a personal foul to a player that receives a technical. I've always hated that. And ultimately that was the egregious part of it all. It gave Clark her fourth personal. Obviously she knows the rule, but I've always felt the rule is over the top. I wish it were like the NBA where you just get one shot and that's it. Two shots, a personal foul, and possession is way too much for a tech.

I've been watching more NBA lately and totally forgot it counted as a personal foul too. Was brutal for Iowa with her and Serrano essentially both picking up their 4th on the same play.

I could stomach it more if players were given a sixth foul. But at that, two shots and possession is overboard when you consider not all techs are the same.

Regarding the face wave taunting - I agree it was different circumstances, but don't do it if you don't want to get it back.  To Clarke's credit she walked away and took her medicine.

 

Regarding the T.  I wasn't able to watch much of the 2nd half.  Who tossed the ball to Clarke?  They were huddling so I'm sure it wasn't the ref.  Did an LSU player toss it toward her?  If so, given the circumstances, I don't think a T should be called.  The clock was stopped and it wasn't an attempt to stop the game.  

 

The LSU player who went full Laettner in the 1st half was the key to the game.  She didn't miss and it put Iowa (a tired Iowa in my opinion) in a hole they could not climb out of.  LSU also killed Iowa on the boards with 14 O rebounds.  The officiating was questionable but didn't decide the game.

I could care less with who did it. I know that’s the narrative though, everyone who thinks there’s a difference is because it’s a racial issue.

Make no mistake, that is the EXACT reason it's been made into a big deal nationally. I knew what was coming as soon as I saw it happen. 

If that shoe doesn't fit you (or anybody else who decided to comment on it), great. I'm glad. But that is 100% the reason it's a national story.

Sad if true and I think it would be hard to disagree.
