The school released a statement from the athletic director today announcing Coach Brausch's resignation. I think the bigger question here is if the school will field a varsity team at all next year.

Hate this such proud tradition in Bellevue. They have some great guys that lead in that Athletic Dept. I’m hoping they can find some stability and get things going in the right direction.

Maybe they need to phase back in by playing freshman, jv, then varsity in a year or two. I believe their numbers of 10th -12th graders are still low. Such a proud tradition of small school football for many, many years. Hope it can be re-established.

I was about to say the same thing. Drop out of varsity play these next two years, and build it back up. Play a freshman and JV schedule, or a Froshmore schedule if needed. Focus on that and on the middle school team these next two years. Try to get numbers up, build some excitement and confidence in the program and then jump back into varsity play in two years.

If he is ready to get back into coaching, then yes he absolutely should be the first call. He would do a great job in building it back up.

What seems to be the recurring problems for this team? Job has been open a few times over years lately.

You want the simple answer or the complex one?

Simple answer - they don't have enough players to fill a competitive team.

Complex answer - all three of the primary boys ball sports (baseball, basketball, football) have been on a decline with baseball doing the best job at trying to stay at the same level of play as the other Div. III teams. There is a variety of factors here that include kids choosing to go to private school or transferring/moving out of district, kids choosing not to stick with sports, and, quite frankly, Bellevue boys athletics is falling behind the other river city schools and it is having a snowball effect.

Bellevue today:

I’m in agreement that this further confirms numbers issues with anticipated information, if not known. It’s still hard to believe that Bellevue isn’t having kids come out for football. But with reduced enrollment amongst other challenges, these things unfortunately are becoming common now. I truly hope they can get things figured out. I don’t know much about the coach there last season, but from what I heard from good Bellevue sources, he was there for the haul. So, I feel like it’s fair to question whether or not they will be fielding a team this season.

If he wants to be a head coach still, I would agree. Don’t think there would be a better person to do it considering all going on and being the school he played at and of course graduated from.

I sure hope they can get someone to get these young men to believe that if they put in the hard work and take some lumps that they can be successful. If they have to start from ground zero and play a freshman schedule so be it. My moms family is Bellevue ( My grandpa and his siblings all Bellevue grads) and it was so much fun playing them in the 90s. You were in a game that you knew they wanted to literally kill you regardless of the outcome. I drive through from time to time and there are so many young boys that should be at winter conditioning or practice that are just strolling around with their friends, that look like they could be a huge addition to the football team. I can’t understand the attitude of “if we are going to lose all the time why play?”. I went 2-8, 3-7 my last two years at NC and I was still ready to run through a brick wall for a slight chance to win.

As Mrs. 9068 always tells me "You're a dinosaur" lol. Things are not as they once were. I think the biggest problem is numbers of players. I believe they have some younger kids coming up that will continue to play. Heard they have some nice track athletes, but most are not football guys. Have been with several former Tiger coaches recently and we all just shake our heads.
