Bullitt East Chargers - 6A State Champs!!!

Featured Replies

I am an employee at Bullitt East and have coached several of these football players in the past. Yes, I have commented on several posts already because I am so filled up with how proud I am of this huge accomplishment. It all starts with Administration support and then having the right leadership in place of the program. Players have to buy in on what the coach wants to accomplish. And then go out and execute the plan. Yes we took a blow the first game. But our kids came back week after week and improved because of the loss. Momentum started and continued to build. We defeat Male for the first time ever. Everyone who doubted us said that because Swinney did not play was the reason we won. We continued onward and defeated Manual which was a huge game to win for our program. We also had to defeat good teams in Central Hardin and Bryan Station. We faced adversity several times along the way but our kids Believed and Never Gave Up!!!  When we knew we would play Male again, we embraced it. All the doubters continued to doubt and said we could not defeat them twice, especially with Swinney back in action. Our kids never flinched. Rough start to the game, but our defense played extremely well to limit Male to 14 points in the 1st half. Our offense rose to the occasion to tie it at halftime. We had a tough 3rd quarter. But our guys came alive and took care of business the 4th quarter. Many people have said it was Unbelievable. I say only to the doubters and those who do not know our program. It was TOTALLY BELIEVABLE to our Coaches, Players and Fans. What a FASTASTIC MEMORY that will live in the hearts of everyone who contributed in some way. Even to those from outside our city who supported us. WE ARE the 6A STATE CHAMPIONS!!!

Your boys earned it, and deserved it.

Enjoy it.

Congratulations

I second this. All odds were against them and they fought their tails off. Story book ending no doubt!

I don't know that anyone in Jefferson County would agree with me, but Bullitt East winning the big school championship is a much needed breath of fresh air for football in this state.

I had my doubts, especially after Male went up 14-0 inside of two minutes. They had to overcome history and beat Male - with a healthy Swinney and Gainey - a second time. And they came back twice from a two score deficit.

The stars were aligned.

This was the most I've ever enjoyed following the big school division. For the sake of that class, I hope the Chargers, Station, Hendo, and all other "At-Large" contenders this year have staying power. It keeps casuals outside of Louisville interested when there's depth to the class and teams that can compete with, and beat, the "Big 3".

It is good, and I think it could be a sign of things to come in the future.

For me what's most amazing about BE winning class 6A is when you look at all the teams predicted to win it in 6A and all the teams around BE in the final rankings in all classes with all the D1 talent those teams have, BE did what they did with only 1 player who has any D1 offers and that's an offer from an FCS Pioneer League school which is non-scholarship.  In fact, there are only a handful of players on their team that have any college offers at all.  Now, that is either the definition of getting the most out of the talent you have or the definition of some college coaches badly missing the boat on the talent this team has.  Then again, I guess it could be a combination of both.

With realignment could be some more teams in the mix like Frederick Douglass and South Warren. 6A is on the upswing.

I am so amazed that no one mentions the job the head coach and his assistants did all year. This was a wonderful coaching job.

It has been mentioned on other BE posts.  Coach Kendrick has also won 2 or 3 Coach of the year awards.  Pretty young staff to be honest.  I agree that they did a great job.  Coach Kendrick has thanked his staff and players on a few social media posts because COY awards are definitely a reflection of excellent assistant coaches and players who are willing to put in the work and be coach-able !!

I will say this.  It was brought up a few times that this staff was at a distinct disadvantage as far as big game experience, and they were.  But Coach Kendrick played at Boyle County and was on two state title teams.  He then played 4 years at LWC on the best NAIA program in the state of Ky for the last several years with great coaches and his first two seasons coaching out of college were with Coach Larry French and new Madison Central HC William Blair.  His DC Kenny Thornsberry has head coaching experience and new to the staff this season, Lloyd Hall, also played on the same Boyle teams he did and then at Centre for Andy Frye.  It is a young staff but the pedigree is pretty good.

Amazing what a change in culture and discipline can do for a program.  Congrats to the Chargers!
