I agree playing a tough schedule means a lot. As far as determining if a school will make a deep run because of it, I’ve also seen it play out both ways. I’ve seen the school with the weaker schedule win and the school with the tougher schedule lose very early. With that being said, this is the playoffs. Anything can happen. Just know My pick is MF/BW at state.

Correct. I am glad we’ve taken the road less traveled the past two years to make it there. This senior class is due for an easier trip. 

I haven't seen any of these teams play in person, but know they have talent for sure.

I've been keeping up with Mayfield for a long time.  Playing at War Memorial Stadium in November is a very tough task.  Not saying LCA can't win, but know Mayfield will be ready as I wouldn't trade their coaching staff.  Add the 4 hour bus ride and it's tough for anyone.

Owensboro Catholic beat Owensboro.  Anyone had a better win in 2A this year?  They also beat my Purples in JV.  Something that hasn't happened in quite a while.

Beechwood has an easy road relatively and will be tough to beat at Kroger.

Looking at 2A playoffs, we are back to day 1s. Beechwood, LCA, Mayfield... then everyone else. OCath has had a dark horse label all year.  I don't foresee anyone else to seriously contend. 

Beechwood is the favorite! 2X champ looking for a 3peat.  They don't seem to be a lock for the 'ship after the loss of their all world athlete in Mitch Berger (Side note: I am a huge fan of this kid as an athlete and person & wish him nothing but the best!!!!).   Still, no one has come close to the Tigers in 2A during the regular season.

LCA seems to have the most talent. The Eagles will be dangerous during the playoffs now that they are healthy.  But... We have heard this for three years now!!!  Is this the one???

Mayfield is... Mayfield.  Another 10-0 season in the books.  They have scheduled the toughest west KY schedule possible that looked like a gauntlet in preseason. Their district is down which year in/out has contended to be the toughest in 2A and the rest of their schedule consist of 1-6A, 1-5A, 3-4A, 1-3A teams. To no fault of their own, RPI has not been kind and now sit at #3 during the playoffs. That means they may travel in round 4.  This is important considering this... Mayfield at home is 60-3 since the 2000 season at home (Danville '01,'03 & Murray '20) ?

OCath is still the unknown.  The put up a lot of points like most OCath teams in the past. They have beat everyone they are supposed to.  Played great at time like beating their rivals O'boro 21-17.  They have played not so great at times like the loss to Daviess Co 13-32 and the puzzling game vs Todd Co 47-37.  Still, their playoff performances have not been great.  The Aces have not made it past the 3rd round since their state finals appearance back in 2010.  Their road usually ends vs Mayfield or Murray.  Is this their year?

2A will have some interesting matchups.  Can't wait!

Of course  I am biased toward Beechwood but I think the RPI this year has worked to Beechwood’s favor and the West Bracket is going to cannibalize itself. The Mayfield-LCA game is going to be a battle and I think LCA squeaks one out against Mayfield. I then believe that will take its toll on LCA and they lose a close one to Owensboro Catholic the next week. I believe the State Championship will be another battle but the previous weeks games will wear a little more on OC and Beechwood wins by a score of 24-17. That’s is assuming all teams stay healthy. 

 

 

 

 

I really like your breakdown of this you’re probably not too far off. But I’m going to go out on a limb and say Newport will upset Walton Verona. Just a hunch I guess. 

Talk about taking care of business? Mayfield went undefeated and sits at the 3 spot. We can’t help that our opponents just shut down after we beat them and couldn’t win the rest of their games. Not our fault at all. Again, aside from traveling to all parts of the state for better competition I don’t see what Mayfield is supposed to do to not get screwed in the RPI.

There’s nothing they can do. They’ve tried everything they can. It’s just how the RPI plays out sometime.

Travel for bowl games in the first few weeks of the  year. Those schools will pay you to travel and it puts your guys on a big stage playing great competition. LCA played in the Roy Kidd Bowl vs 6A Madison Central and the Rebel Bowl against Mercer Co this year. Last year they played Boyle Co in Rebel Bowl. Or, you can host a bowl series at your place and pay teams to come to you. There are ways.

I’m not implying we are unstoppable but a lot of teams on this side of the state don’t want to play mayfield first game of the season when you’re feeling stuff out. I just don’t see a 5-6 hour trip first week to a Louisville,Lexington or Northern school very viable right off the back. You BW and LCA guys are lucky you have real solid comp right in your backyard. Unfortunately they’re all scared here.

McCracken County totally falling apart really hurt Mayfield, that was consistently good team on the schedule form 2013-2019.

Very true. The same goes for Paducah on a good year and sometimes even Graves. Heck, even Murray would beat most of their opponents before losing to Mayfield.

Looks pretty good except Danville over Metcalfe. Danville is a dumpster fire and and Metcalfe is better than most people realize.

Not a prediction, but an observation as a neutral, Clay Hayden is a really talented thrower at QB for BW. I hadn’t seen him play before since he missed the CCH game, but was impressed after watching his hudl highlights. Pretty clearly QB 2 in NKY behind Chase Crone for me. 

If BW can’t get it done in 2A with him throwing to a 4 star receiver, that’s on the coaches.

He is not a 4 star receiver. 4 Star DB and a very small target on the offensive side. I can see if you get him the ball in space or on jet sweeps but definitely not a big time down the field threat. I am not sure on the QB. Hudl highlights are just as you say. They are highlights. 

He’s far from a 4 star on the offensive side of the ball. Beechwood has multiple receivers better than him on offense.
