Wow that’s impressive that Highlands won a state title in 2014 and made state semi finals in 2015 without even having someone coach the team. The know it all fans from the stands must have had some great game plans and made some good calls those years. 
 

Plus really impressive that Beau Hoge was able to still play and beat the Blueboys in those two years. Especially in 2015, since he would have been at BYU that year and already graduated. I’m surprised CovCath didn’t petition that game then if Beau Hoge beat them, since Highlands would have been using a player that had graduated and was enrolled in college at BYU.  Very impressive on his part to travel back and forth from college to high school to pull that off.

Great game tonight for both teams. Glad to see obviously a Highlands win. 
 

Scratched my head when Eddie got lock jaw right after CovCath  shoved it down Highlands throat. 
 

The back to back penalties and then the safety exposed a conservative approach with the game on the line

Just making sure facts were actually presented here. Since some may have actually believed you that Highlands hadn’t beat CovCath since Dale. 
 

Plus I’m interested in who beat CovCath in 2015 twice, since Beau wasn’t on that team. Since you obviously don’t want to get the previous coach credit for that either.

In that case, if I am Highlands, the win over CCH was good and all, but we ain't going to Freddie D so it is on like Donkey Kong against the Jags. 

A complete failure by the CCH head coach. The defense did it’s part at usual but you come off a bye week and you decide to do probably 50% of your plays as QB draws that really weren’t working most of the night. You’re going to get your already beat up QB killed. 

Then on the safety play, you tell your QB of you don’t see ax receiver open immediately then throw it away. Don’t hold on to it forever and then decide to run to back of end zone and Pitzer nearly throws it right into the hands of a defender as he was taking the sack. Bonehead play because coaches did not do their part and  stress the importance to the QB  of getting rid of the ball if play don’t develop. I would have just ran the ball on 3rd down and punted. You don’t fool around on your own five yard late in the game being up by 4 at that point. 
 

Then the biggest idiotic coaching mishap was on the kickoff after the safety. Everyone in the stands was saying before he kicked it, “Don’t kick it to #1  Noon”. That kid was getting 30-50 yard returns on kickoff/punt returns all night. So what does CCH do, we kick it right to the guy and there he went for a touchdown. That Noon kid is fast. I nearly had a stroke after that happen. 
 

I feel sorry for the CCH kids tonight. You had the game won being up 21-17 and then getting yet another interception on the 2 yard line. But from there is when your coach really failed you.

Never ceases to amaze me. They got what they want and still bash the guy.

As I said the QB draw every other play had no chance. 
 

Even though they were outplayed, 
interesting to see if the colonels could have held on for the ugly win if the interception went different. One player was going to pick it and be able to run it pretty far upfield but the player diving in front of him had to fall down on the one.  Safety and kick return results.  
 

After the three turnovers and the colonel only positive play was the 20 yard TD pass the writing waS on the wall.

Agree 100%. 

It was frustrating in 2020 to watch in Jacobs, a senior QB with two state championships played in, reduced to this QB draw every play. I assumed there weren’t any receivers Eddie trusted to call the pass plays or the line to protect him.  Now it’s the third year of that. 
I’m no expert but two weeks to prepare for your arch rival with playoff implications and I saw nothing Highlands didn’t see on film all year.  

The way the Birds defense was dominating I was surprised they didn’t onside kick every time.

I generally think we are pretty well coached. Having said that, we are staring at another 9 win season if we play Freddy D round 2 (maybe 8 if we lose to Ryle). That would mean that since Eviston has been at CCH, we are a 9 or 10 win team every year that Michael Mayer is not on the roster. I know that the 17 team wins a title without Mike on the team, but you get my point. We should be better than that and should be able to make a run without needing a 1st round pick on the team. 

I think Highlands did the Belichick method of taking away what they do best (Running the ball with Leen). So what was open for the colonels was QB draw and short outside passing. I thought Cov Cath was pretty effective with the short range passing. #2 for Cov Cath was a really good receiver, they should have figured out some more ways to get him the ball. 
 

The game changer was the two flubs in a row. The safety and kicking it directly to Noon. After that TD return the Cov Cath energy just dropped and they were a little shell shocked and were playing at like 80%. In reality the two teams looked and played pretty evenly to me.
