79 Lafayette is the best team in Kentucky in the last 30 years. They were big enough and plenty athletic. A best of 7 would have ended 4 to 3. You pick the winner.

Where is JR VanHoose now? I heard he recently was cut by a team in the NBDL. Is that true?

I seen one ranking where South Charleston was ranked 5th.

Louisville Ballard with Alan Houston in the 80's. Or Clay co. with Richie Farmer the same year.

Mason County with Chris Lofton could beat them. Owensboro Apollo in the years of Rex Chapman could surely beat them. The Paintsville team of '96 could surely give them a game. Clay County and Richie Farmer's state championship team could take them down. Louisville Ballard with Allan Houston could assuredly win. Many LexCath teams, Trinity teams could take down Huntington High. With all due respect though, this Huntington team could give any of these teams a game and possibly pull out a win against them as well.

96 Paintsville team could beat them. I have seen HHS play and they are extremely athletic. If they played the 96 team 10 times, HHS would win more times than they would lose. But the 96 Paintsville team could beat HHS on a given night.

He is teaching and coaching at Paintsville. He is getting ready to start his second season in the International Basketball League (IBL). From what I saw in the Paintsville newspaper this summer he averaged something like 27 ppg and 15 rpg for the team in West Virginia he played for. Im not so sure about that. Patterson is a top 15 player in this years class and top 3 for his position. I don't think you'll find many big men he can't guard.

 

 

 

Patterson could not stop JR in his playing days. And I will gamble and say Patterson could still not stop JR.

I'm going to stop after today - and turn my attentions to the Scott Co. v/s Bryan Station game tomorrow (Tuesday) - but no one showed up for the Crow lunch I fixed on Saturday afternoon. I had it all set up with plenty of Tropicana and Hellmans... OK - I'm finished. But it is comical to read some of these now, knowing that this Scott Co. team is no where near some of the teams mentioned on this thread.

Ditto...I would hve liked to see Dicky Beal, Shloemer and the boys from the 1990 Holmes state runer up team take on this squad. The 90 team w/ Wimzie, Hayes, and Pouncy were very athletic and would have presented some match up problems for HHS...especially with Wimzie's physical presence down low.

Not sure about your dates. I'm pretty sure Beal and Shloemer were not on the 90 team. What year did they play together, I don't remember that?

I am going to change my position on this issue and say that the Harlan team with Charles Thomas, Michael Jones, and Todd Cox would have beaten this Huntington Highlanders team.

I will re-state my opinion that the 1979 Lafayette team with Dirk Minifield and Tony Wilson not only could have competed with but could have beaten Huntington.

I've been watching O.J. for the about 7 years now and the only thing I can say about him is that he needs to move on to the next level, whatever it might be. He's totally bored with high school basketball and all the hype hasn't helped him.:dancingpa

I think the 2006-07 Scott County team could give them a run for their money!
