Ever been a KY High School team that could have beaten present Huntington, WV High?

Featured Replies

I think Fairdale of the early 90's would have a chance but other than that no no no no no team from Kentucky would win period. Scott Co. and Lex Cath will lose by 20 or more belive it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What about the 79 Lafayette

team?

HH has so many good players on that roster now whew it's not fair. It's just not the OJ and Pat Patterson show they have 4 other players who legit!!!!!!!

Scott County was not that impressive at the Boyd Tourney...And if that is the best we have in the State this year, then our level is down.

Dont get me wrong, Scott is a nice team but not near the talent of the past State winners.

Yeah they werent that impressive. They beat every team over there by 40+. Its hard to judge a team based on what they do when they blow someone out.

Who?

Mike Jones was the coach of the team. His son, also named Michael/Mike, played on the team. The son is the leading assist man in KY High School history.

If I'm not mistaken, Harlan High School had a nationally ranked (#13 I think) team in the early 90's. I don't think Mike Jones and the boys could have handled Mayo and Patterson though.

Charles Thomas and Todd Cox very very good team

HHS could NOT gaurd JR VanHoose in the post.

That's hilarious!

The 79 Lafayette team may have been the best KY has had to offer in 40 years.

Like I said in an earlier post the early 90's Fairdale team is probaly the best team. BACK TO BACK

I'd nominate the LexCath team that had Demetrius Green, William Graham and Harrison Morton
Huntington was ranked in the preseason top five by Sports Illustrated, USA Today and Prep Nation.

Some scouting publications have placed three Huntington players among the top 150 college prospects. That means major D-1 schools. Mayo with Southern California, Early with Oklahoma and Patterson with the likes of Duke and UK.

In fact all of Huntington's top six are legitimate D-I prospects.

That Lex Cath team was special, but I watched O.J. Mayo, Michael Taylor and Jamaal Williams as 8th graders compete with Harrison, Morton and Greene at Lex Cath in the 2002-2003 season. LC won that meeting 90-75.

I have to believe that 6’ 5” Mayo, 6’ Taylor and 6’ Williams now as seniors at HHS along with 6' 9" Patrick Patterson, 6' 7" Chris Early and 6’ 7” Bruce Senior would be more than a match for any of the teams forwarded so far, including Lex Cath with Harrison, Morton and Greene.

Oh yeah! Well, what about the undefeated 69-70 Charles Russell Indians squad that won the City Championship, and sent four players to the Buddy Ball league in Ceredo-Kenova? Talk about loaded!!

I know - I was the 11th man on that 10 man squad that Coach Kirk took to the promised land...

PS - that was before the surgery.

Just surviving a season under Coach Kirk is grounds for a "Purple Heart" IMO...

You know he was a heck of a coach - by the end of one season, I was able to dribble with my right hand, watching the ball the whole time, and only lose the ball off my foot out of bounds every fourth dribble or so.

Naturally I wasn't quite as steady when being guarded ...

PS - I believe that until you went through, I held the school record for blocking my own shots in one game.

I also set the record for fastbreak-wide-open-snowbird-ball-off-knee-into-the-curtains-on-the-stage-behind-the-backboard-combos... as a fourth grader. :thumb:

It's like riding a bicycle... I still have that move down solid.

I dont think they would beat them too bad, but what about the Chris Lofton led team in 04 that got upset against Warren Central, that WC team was tough, they could cause trouble for HH

Totally agree! Warren Central played the second half of the '04 absolutely perfect. I would love to see the Dewalt, Maresca duo back in action, especially to a team such as HHS. They would definitly give them a run for there money.

If anyone on here thinks a KY school can come within 15 points oh H-Town then go check yourself. They are dangerous and for those who have the chance to watch them when playing our in state teams, then please go do so. They are a treat.
