I'd take the Richie Farmer, Russ Farmer, Russ Chadwell Team if they got to play at Clay County and Coach Keith gave the refs a gift certificate to his clothing store.

Ballard with Adam Chiles, Mac Wilkinson, Cedric Knight, Brandon Bender, and the little PG that was the MVP of the state tournament that year would have a good chance.

 

The Scott County team with Rick Jones, Scott Hundley, Casey Alsop, and AW Hamilton may have been able to pull it off - I'd like to watch AW Hamilton guard OJ. I don't know if that team would have an answer for Patterson inside.

 

Lex Cath with Shawn Fields and David ??? (went to Notre Dame) and Nathan Popp - (I can hear Ryan Lemond now when Patterson jams over Popp) maybe.

 

It should be fun to watch Scott Co. play them this year. I wish they still had Rodney Haddix!

Can anyone name a True, Hometown team (no recruits), that you feel could beat this year's Huntington High School team in WV. Every player on the HHS team grew up and played ball in Huntington WV. Name any school of any year.

 

I was just sitting thinking about this and would like some opinions.

Clay county was the one team that I was thinking I would loved to see matched up with HHS:thumb:

We will never know the true answer, but the Ballard team from the mid to late 70's with Lamp, Raker and Evans would have been a good matchup with them.

 

The 95 Paintsville team was pretty daggone solid too. That would have been a good game.

That was a great team Frances, and you could be right, but I think that maybe the '75 or '76 Male team could have been a better challenger. In my opinion that may have been the best team to ever come out of Kentucky. I may be wrong but I think at one point in one of those seasons ( probably '76) they were the #1 ranked high school team in the country. The '79 Lafayette team was pretty danged good too. I am positive that they finished the season ranked as the #2 team in the country.

To go along with the late 90's Scott County, Ballard, and Lex Cath, I think you could add the Louisville Male team with Larry O'bannon and Mike Bush when he was a sophmore or jr??

 

Another team that has to be considered in the 98-99 Madison Central team. They were beat out in the Sweet Sixteen by Scott County that year. They featured Marquis Estill (who was injured and no way near 100%), Kenneal Jenkins, 4 other future collegiate athletes, and a deep bench. Size, athleticism, and senior leadership.

 

Not saying any of these teams would win, but they may have been able to hang with HHS.

Scooterbob - the Celtics would have had a hard time winning at Clay when they had the Farmers and Coach Keith.

I am sure they have been many, Scott Co. has a pretty good shot at doing so this season.

Huntington is very dominating this year. I have went and see them play twice and they are pretty awesome...but it is interesting to see how other KY teams would matchup.

Scott County was not that impressive at the Boyd Tourney...And if that is the best we have in the State this year, then our level is down.

 

Dont get me wrong, Scott is a nice team but not near the talent of the past State winners.

Just by pure athleticism I would say that the Male teams that I mentioned would have been the best I have personally ever witnessed. In the '75 state tournament I saw the entire team form a dunk line before the referees came out and every player on the team put one down.

 

I played for Johnson Central that season and if we had of won our opening round game , I would have had the chance to play against Griffith and Turner in that tournament. Unfortunately we were beaten by a team that we had beaten two weeks earlier in the regular season and did not get the opportunity. As a side note Male went on to beat the team that beat us by the largest margin ever at that time in state tournament history. Could have been something to tell the grandkids about.

Some of you guys love of OJ has blinded you to a few things - Discipline and Teamwork

 

 

HHS has little to 0 chemistry as does some the big name teams they play. Put a team that is close to them in talent, has chemistry and put them in a close game with this bunch and I'll take my chances with HHS losing because who is really coaching the team and it was very, very evident that OJ is going to make sure he is the SHOW after last nights game.

I love the Male teams but I would add the Lafayette team with M-field and company with 6 or 7 D-1 players and Shelby County durung the same time .
