I've been to over 100 high school gyms across the state and Marshall County, Mason County, Hopkinsville, and Perry Central are among the best I've seen. I would pick Marshall County as the best based on facilities, line of sight, scoreboard, sound, and ambiance.

 

I agree with the Marshall County pick. Went to the Hoop Fest this year. First high school scoreboard I have seen with on-floor player stats. It is more like a college arena more than a gym.

For me, no atomospere better than an Augusta / Bracken matchup at the Panther Den in Augusta. Right behind the bench, surrounded by a bunch of BGP'ers.

 

Thats why I save you a seat. A polar bear and panther fan side by side How often will you see that?

 

Everyone knows I am biased but you can't beat the Den. Too bad it could not hold more people.

 

For the big games and big crowds would have to say the Feildhouse

In the 14th region Knott Central has the best gym. Seats 5,000, with most seats chairback. It was renovated a couple of years ago and is really nice.The only handicap with the facility is they need an extra exit roue to move the traffic out better. One outlet is not enough.

Have you been to all 16 regionals?

 

No I have not to all that many regional tournaments but I have been to several gyms. I guess you could say that I am a little bias but its just one mans opinion.

History is Memorial Coliseum. I was lucky enough to play there. Great fun even though we lost by 30.

The best new gym in Kentucky is the Expo Center at Pikeville. There is not a bad seat in the house and all seats have backs. The place holds a ton of people also.....

I like Memorial. It could be a great gym if they would clean it up the way Prestonsburg has done theirs. PBurg was always my favorite place to play.

 

I remember playing at Allen Central when they had a tartan playing surface. When was it that they went to hardwood?

I'm not sure when they put the Hardwood down there but the last time I was there it looked really nice, really clean...great basketball facilities there.

Pike Central has a very impressive gym.

 

Belfry's new gym is very nice,,, but it isn't the equivalent in basketball as CAM stadium is in football.

 

The Expo Center is an awesome place for games, especially the regional tourney.

 

BUT, from my playing days I still say that my favorite place is Mason County! GREAT atmosphere.

The gym at Deming went though some changes with the bleachers and we lost a row of bleachers all around but it looks better with the new bleachers.

Henry Co. and Scott Co. have really nice gyms but the problem is with the age of Henrys, im pretty sure it was built in the 60's. besides age its pretty nice and big
