It is statewide but 2 teams come from the East and 2 teams from the west. If LCA passes all of the teams in the East, they can’t be the #4 seed. Therefore, whoever wins the other regional final game in the East will be the #4, playing the #1.

Can you or someone else (VoR) give us an example using actual/probable teams, the RPI hurts my brain sometimes and this is one of those sometimes.

West-

#4 ?????? at #1 Mayfield

#3 LCA at #2 Owensboro Catholic

East- 

#4 Walton-Verona at #1 Beechwood

#3 Lloyd Memorial at #2 Breathitt County

My guess would be the following matchups in the semifinals:
 

#4 Lloyd Memorial at #1 Beechwood

#3 LCA at #2 Mayfield

As a Beechwood fan that would be ideal.  I would like to huff and puff and say bring LCA and Mayfield on but those two teams playing in the semi-finals is ideal from my perspective and playing Lloyd a second time would be both exciting and refreshing.

Another thing to keep an eye on is Owensboro Catholic passing Mayfield. They’re not far behind and Mayfield is going to take a big hit this week against Ballard Memorial. 
 

Obviously, that could set up a Mayfield vs LCA regional final.

I wouldn't shed any tears over that.  The one thought I can't get out of mind is I think LCA could elevate their performance this year by a pretty large amount and surprise us all.

Beechwood lost .02 in WP with win over Holy Cross but lost a lot of ground in OWP and OOOWP because of Holy Cross' poor record and schedule.

Beechwood gained .12 in RPI with a win over 6A Dixie. Mayfield will gain less than that with a win over MNH in the last game of the year. Beechwood will likely gain ground in OWP and OOWP based on the opponents win totals you cite. 

I am not using the formulas in a spreadsheet and running numbers so don't rely on this. I am going by my understanding of the formulas and looking at the big picture numbers. I don't see Mayfield passing Beechwood and getting to #1.

Next, let's take a guess on LCA vs. Lloyd. Here is where they stand right now:

In the OWP category, Lloyd is going to gain a little because their 2 remaining are going to have about .500 WP and LCA's 3 remaining opponents are going to be a little under .500 WP.

LCA is going to gain ground in WP. They are going to win their last three games. Their last game is against 6A Henry Clay. A win there should be similar to the .12 Beechwood gained with their win over Dixie Heights. LCA is only .02 behind Lloyd so the .12 from beating Henry Clay should push LCA above Lloyd. Right now, I think LCA will get above Lloyd and Breathitt County in RPI. That puts them in line to play Mayfield in the semifinals.

 

The new RPI is out. It happened sooner than I expected. The LCA win coupled with Lloyd's loss to Beechwood is enough to push LCA ahead of Lloyd. Mayfield drops to #3.

Goodness gracious. A drop? Lol I get it and we should get the spot back come 2 weeks but this is ridiculous. Mayfield can’t help how weak western Kentucky football has become. We literally still schedule all of the bigger schools that will play us. Outside of driving 2-3 hours for better competition I don’t know what else we should do. This RPI formula is something else….

Next week yes but then they both play up against Madisonville and Elizabethtown and could get class bumps to their Winning %. Then you have to take in consideration of your opponents Winning % and Opponents Opponents Winning %. A lot of moving parts in the RPI.
