I heard this last night from both CovCath and Dixie fans. Both groups stunned that he wasn't ejected.  No need for it, no defense of it and it needs to stop. We can only hope a concerted effort is made to educate him on how that behavior can not only negatively affect his recruiting and reputation, but, more importantly, get someone hurt badly. 

 

 

Cov Cath's record improves to 44-7 over Dixie. Looking at the stats from last night, Cov Cath had 423 total offensive yards with 223 passing and 200 on the ground. Dixie appears to still be working on figuring out how to report stats this season, but Cov Cath's stats crew had Dixie down for 163 total yards offense, with 68 yards passing and 95 yards rushing.

Evan Pitzer was 4-6 for 44 yards and 1 TD in one quarter, and Zac Roberts was 12-14 for 179 yards and 4 TDs in three quarters. Owen Leen rushed 14 times for 96 yards and 2 TDs, Pitzer had 33 yards on 4 carries, and Will Michels had 20 yards late in the game on 7 carries. Props to Michels coming in with Cov Cath's backups and running it hard against Dixie's starters in the 4th quarter...that was so hard-fought yardage by Michels. TE Willie Rodriguez had 3 catches for 83 yards and 3 touchdowns (nice stat line there), Braylon Miller had 5 catches for 77 yards and 1 TD, and Ben McEvoy had 3 catches for 30 yards and 1 TD.

On defense, Aiden Jones had 8 tackles, 1 sack (I thought there were two, but the stats show 1), 3 TFL and a blocked field goal. Tate Kruer had 9 tackles and 1 TFL. Max Lawrie had 5 tackles and a sack...plus, if I'm not mistaken, there were no gained yards on any of his tackles. Andrew Bessler had 4 tackles, a sack, and an interception. Ben Reeves had 3 tackles and a forced fumble. And Willie Rodriguez had 2 tackles, a sack, and a fumble recovery.

If above is correct, there's a lot of work to do.

That is probably correct. Dixie needs to put some of its defense line on the offensive line. All three of Dixie's D lineman would be their best offensive lineman. All 3 are studs and can play BOTH ways, and it probably needs to happen. They are already on the field most of the time anyway. Cov Cath dominated Dixie's Oline.

This isn’t entirely accurate. Dixie did substitute a few on defense. It’s important to note they are a young team and there isn’t much depth yet. Looking at the offensive stat line you posted any remaining defensive starters left in you could have stuck a fork in because they were done. The last fumble was caused by a Dixie junior, on a CovCath #27 junior. 6A or not, subtle digs at starters vs non starters is a bit unfair to those who may not have the luxury of depth a school like CovCath enjoys every year.

Dixie has 75 players on their varsity roster...Cov Cath has 68. Where is the "depth" advantage that Cov Cath enjoys over Dixie?

There is a seven player advantage on total number of players sure. But CovCath enjoys a roster with a lot less Sophomores and freshman 35 to 25. I’m sure if you have seen the JV squad Dixie is putting out there you’d be like “oh” that’s why they didn’t have a lot of subs. The point being, is that you’ve mentioned a couple of times back ups versus starters as if that gave Dixie some type of advantage. Like they were going to run off 40 plus because CovCath swapped a senior for a junior.

Can't comment on Dixie and their numbers, but Cov. Cath. does have 5 sophomores either starting or are major contributors.  Oliver Link, Tate Kruer, Ben McEvoy, Andrew Weitzel and Andrew Bessler all either start or get significant time.   Not to mention a large number of juniors who start or get significant time as well.   I would certainly call this a young team for CCH.

This is correct, almost all of the offensive production is coming back next year for CCH.

Amen. 

Same thing happened in the Simon Kenton Beechwood game. Beechwood started playing their backups late in Q3 and in Q4 BW got as many young players possible playing time as they rotated in players down their depth chart. SK kept their first team offense on the field the whole game. 

There are several reasons why I think a team should be playing their backups in that kind of a game. The biggest reason is let those kids who are working their butts off every every single week get some playing time in a varsity game!

I understand completely what you are saying on this and I agree. However, it’s a little ironic that the Colonels didn’t do this when Elder had their backups in for the 4th quarter of week 1.

I think I am more in line with you longballers, for CCH against Elder and Dixie against CCH, you need to have your first team have some success and I can't fault a team/coach for doing it either way.
