Bowling Green (3-0) at Hopkinsville (1-2)

Bowling Green and Hopkinsville are old rivals and have played many, many times.  The Tigers are at least in the top 3 of most played opponents for the Purples.

But in the past 8 meetings (since 1998), BG leads that portion of the series 5-3 with Hopkinsville winning 3 straight AAA Playoff games in 2001, 2002, and 2003.  BG has won the last 5; most recently last year as the very first opponent at the new Bowling Green Stadium and turf field (38-7).

 

Hopkinsville comes into this game getting their first win on the year last Friday night at struggling Caldwell County (0-3) 42-6.  After facing

a tough 6A Ballard team and perennial Western KY Power Mayfield in Week 2, the drop in competition was likely welcomed by Hopkinsville.

Hopkinsville outgained Caldwell County 430 yards to 191.  Devin Coleman led the Tigers rushing attack with 5 carries for 111 yards and 2 TDs.  QB Zach Moss was 9 for 10 with 197 yards and 3 TDs.  Hopkinsville's defense remained a strong point with only 1 TD surrendered.

 

Bowling Green continued their upward trend last Friday night with a convincing 41-14 home win over 6A Pleasure Ridge Park (2-1).  BG had over 400 yards on the night vs 141 for PRP.  JR RB Ladanian Woods continued his upward trend with 148 yards on 18 carries and 2 TDs.  SO RB Jayden Axson also had a good game gaining tough yards and 2 TD as well (and BGs starting RB Javon Huddleston has been out the last 2 games).  QB Deuce Bailey continued to improve going 18 for 23 for just over 200 yards and a TD to FR WR Trevy Barber.  JR WR Easton Barlow had 4 catches and a total of 7 Purples had at least 1 reception on the night.  The BG defense played really well only giving up 4 yards rushing and 137 yards passing to a PRP team with 2 D1 WRs and a 3 year starter at QB!  

Senior K/P Collin Fratus had a good night for the Purples with most kicks into the endzone and 2 for 2 field goals of 28 and 40 yards!  Well done!

I look for the Purples to go on the road for the first time this year and take care of business.  The Hopkinsville defense is a formidable unit, but BG playing well right now.

The Purples are trending up every week. Hopkinsville I believe will have a hard time scoring on this Purples D and Bailey and the Purples O will handle business. 
 

Hopkinsville will be better later in the year I believe but will have a tough go this week. I’ll say BG 31 HHS 7.

In other news this will now NOT be the last year of football for Hopkinsville & Christian County. Supposedly will go one more year (2023 season) and then merge but with how things have gone there may not be a merger at all. Stay tuned.
