  • Holy Cross has had many very good coaches over the years including Ralph Kemphaus, Jeff Trame & Clay Eifert. However, the best ever at HC without a doubt is George Schneider!

In my opinion these are some of the better coaches around my area...

1.Billy Hicks/Corbin

2.Steve Wright/South Laurel

3.Rich Prewitt/Whitley

4.Rich Prewitt/Williamsburg

Those are the schools in the 13th region and some coaches over the past, all of these coachs are doing or have done a outstanding job at these schools.

Job well done coaches in the Ace's opinion..

Corbin: Billy Hicks, Mike Deaton, Tony Pietrowski

Whitley: Jerry Hodges, Jimmy Voight, Rich Prewitt

Williamsburg: Allen LeForce, Brent West, Rich Prewitt...

I go back a few years before your time ACE. But you have a good list as well.

Greenup County----Randy Ward

If you liked that syle or not he was successfull at what he did. Allot of coaches resemble his style in the 16th now.

Correct on all counts.

or Bob Wright. Patterson was an unbelievable winner.

From Rose Hill I would go with the current coach, Tim Fraley.

Ashland's top three are clearly James A. Anderson, Bob Wright, and Paul Patterson. Anderson coached the 1928 national champions, Wright coached the 1961 state champions and the 1962 runnersup, and Patterson never lost a game in the region. Tough choice for number one but I'll take Coach Wright.

Someone named Mike Flynn. I can think of a goodly number of Ashland coaches not named above who would come ahead of Flynn.

Tim gets the call for Rose Hill.

You have to give that to Ashland. They always get a top coach. They have had some real good ones over the years. Its an attractive job for a high school coach. Allot of tradition there.

Ward's teams were boring to watch--To slow for me.

Lexington Catholic - Mike Mendenhall. All the players go through him.

And Meade Memorial.... A living legend in the mountains.

And still a friend, advisor, father figure, and mentor to many of us. He wasn't just all about basketball.

Bubba you put up a pretty good list....:thumb: You must be older than me...

If you go by wins Robin Kelsch. Robin just recently passed someone when he got his 100th career win at Augusta.

I would have to say at Augusta, it would have to be Robin, not because of wins but his coaching style.

Maysville-Earl Jones

Mason County-Allen Feldhaus

Who did he pass? I know one of the ex-coaches very well. I do agree with your choice though.

Roger Meek took the Patriots to two Sweet Sixteen's. The first was in the school's first year of existence (1974-75) and the second in 1979-80. In my humble opinion, he left coaching too soon to go into administration.

He won the 12th Region twice in six years. It has been 26 years since LC won a regional title and not other coach has won one there.

I don't have my records with me but this is my list of coaches:

Roger Meek (74-75 through 81-82)

Johnny Wilder (82-83 through 83-84)

Nelson Moore (84-85 through 87-88)

Jack Upchurch (88-89 through 94-95??)

Timmy Whitis (95-96?? through 96-97??)

Steve Simpson (97-98?? through 98-99)

Mark Upchurch (99-00 through 02-03)

Jeff Jackson (03-04 to Present)

Bobby Keith at Clay Co has to be one of my all time favorite coaches.:thumb:

great coach:dancingpa
