Jeff Stowers is retiring from coaching after 30 years of coaching.

Featured Replies

Jeff Stowers is hanging up his whistle after tallying over 500 wins as a head coach. 100 wins came as the boys coach at Seven Hills High School in Cincinnati, and the remaining 427 came as the girls coach at Simon Kenton. His first year as head coach came back in the 1993-94 season at Seven Hills, and he's been at Simon Kenton since the early 00's.

Stowers is also a hall of famer at Northern Kentucky University, where he scored 1410 career points and averaged 14.8 points per game for the Norse in the mid-1970s.

Congratulations, Coach!

I just looked into things, and as far as I can tell, Jeff was at Latin School for his entire high school career. He was the top player on Latin School's basketball team in '70, '71, and was honorable

Agreed, and I've been a fan of the Stowers clan for over 50 years.

He is a journalist.    However, Brendan Stowers is the new girls' basketball coach at Simon Kenton, which is what most thought would be the case as he had been shadowing his dad.

Congrats on a great career, my friend.  Have enjoyed many great years watching and enjoying your coaching gift and success with the lady pioneers. Best of luck and enjoyment in your retirement.

Congrats to Coach Stowers on a fantastic career!

It won't be quite the same without you on the sidelines, coach.

Best of luck to the successor in Independence.

I thought the plan was for his son to slide over a seat, it seemed like their co-in-game coaching was a veritable passing of the torch the times I saw them play.

What an amazing career for a really good guy.

You might know the answer to this. Didn’t Stowers playing career start at Covington Latin? I believe he switched to Covington Catholic during high school but he first played high school ball at Latin School.

I think he played at Latin for Father Ed Heile all four years.

You are correct, Jeff did start at the Latin School.

I figured this was a done deal.

There are no "done deals" in Kenton County. I'm guessing they will still have to go through the process which means posting the job and holding interviews. Doesn't mean his son won't get the job, but it does mean it may take a few weeks for it to happen officially.

They didn’t go through that process with their football team as that was a done deal. I think that was about a 4 day turnaround time.

I could swear Jeff started out at CovCath then transferred to Covington Latin where he finished his high school career. I could be wrong though.

They did go through the process, taking applications and holding interviews. It took about 2 weeks.

I've seen "sure things" not get the job in KCDS. Again, not saying that Stower's son isn't the right guy or shouldn't get the job, but you at least have to take applications and conduct interviews. You never know who might apply.

That was a long time ago but I have never heard of a high school student transferring into Latin School.
