OK. My last post on this topic in this thread. Sorry for the diversion. I found a roster from Stowers' freshman year at NKU in 1972 (officially it was still N. Ky, State then). It lists his high school as Covington Latin.  

(Side note: Tallest player on the roster was 6'6" and only one player that tall. My how times have changed.)

I'm pretty positive this is correct...but I'm AM positive that he graduated from Covington Latin.

That makes sense, I knew he played at both schools, but wasn't sure where he started.

I just looked into things, and as far as I can tell, Jeff was at Latin School for his entire high school career. He was the top player on Latin School's basketball team in '70, '71, and was honorable mention on the '72 All-State team after averaging 24.6 points per game and helping earn Latin School's basketball team it's winningest-ever season. He was not shown in the Covington Catholic 1969 yearbook, although his brother Keith, an all-state football player and D1 football recruit who was killed in 1971 in the process of breaking up a fight in Newport, was attending Cov Cath at the same time as Jeff was attending Latin School and was set to graduate the year before Jeff graduated from Latin School.

And younger brother Phil was a First Team All-state hurdler for the Colonels track & field team in 1982. Seem to remember the Stowers girls showing athletic prowess too.

I'm fairly certain the Stowers family was all first cousins with the Derkson clan. Richard Derkson was playing at Cov Cath during the Mote Hils era and had several trips to the Sweet 16 before heading to play for Coach Hils at NKU. He's currently #3 on the career scoring record board at NKU with 1927 points, and he's also #3 on the single-game scoring record board with 39 points against Rose-Hulman in 1972.

I believe you are correct on the Stowers-Derkson connection. Richard was slated to play D1 (at a school whose name escapes me at the moment) before Mote started the program at Northern. Richard's brother Raymond also played for Hils at CCH.

Thank you for the research and confirmation that Jeff never attended CovCath. Good to finally know the facts.

No worries...happens to us all!

I tweeted a jpg of the all-time wins leaders for girls coaching at the Simon Kenton Athletics department and Simon Kenton girls hoops accounts on Twitter mentioning submitting his info to the KHSAA for the record book and got a like from both accounts, so hopefully they're working on submitting.

Strong rumor is that Brendon Stowers will be the next head coach at SK.

Yes, I mentioned that in this thread on March 4th, that has been the "rumor" since about the middle of last season.  As we referenced, it seemed like fait accompli from the beginning.

The SK rumor, @Pop, that I'm more interested in is surrounding Brynlee Pernell -- is she going to stay at SK moving forward?  A lot of chatter out there, as there always was around her brother (Brandon Hatton), about her future.  Hope she stays at SK, would be great for them as she is a really nice young player.
