A buddy and I were discussing this over the weekend... Isn't that the same thing as the US going to war with Russia?

Very scary times.  I have been reading quite a bit about this, and won’t pretend to be an expert, but I still cannot believe that Russia is so brazen and is getting away with this.  Prayers to the peo

I think it is ambiguous.

We (the World) are already giving Ukraine lethal weapons.

If I am drawing a line in the "ambiguous sand" I think a "No Fly Zone" is the same thing as going to war with Russia but giving Ukraine weapons is something just short of that, more of a proxy war.

The price of freedom. What can we do to support Ukraine? Pay whatever the price is at the pump and be glad we have gas to put in our vehicles.

Everything Guru said.  At some point, the oil prices will lead to dire consequences for our economy.  I’m expecting double digit inflation soon.  We must replace Russian oil, we cannot help finance the Ukrainian war.  We also need to protect our economy by turning back on American oil.  We need to do our best to insulate ourselves from these situations and we need to push for Ukraine to have more weapons.  We’re just now authorizing fighter jets 2 weeks into the shelling.

Pump all the oil and natural gas we can and sell it to the world to backfill/replace Russian oil.

That is one, if not the main, reason this war action is underway.

The only way this ends is with a neutral Ukraine.

I understand there is an over-arching way that Russia looks at an armed Ukraine that supports your perspective but the weapons are flowing because Russia in fact invaded a sovereign country.

Moving forward, I think a "neutral Ukraine" is off the table now.  Either Russia occupies/takes over Ukraine or Ukraine forces Russia to retreat and then Ukraine will become at least a quasi-NATO country in short order.  Or simply put, at this point it is all or nothing for Ukraine.

Back to the oil conversation. Forget Keystone, opening new lands for drilling, etc. None of that is necessary. The US has current capacity to increase production above and beyond the 710,000 barrels we buy from Russia. Less than 5% of Russian oil sales go to the US. If the US turned off Russian oil purchases today, it would be a non event for Russia. The US oil companies reduced production during the pandemic as prices dropped drastically. The US output is more than 1 million barrels per day below what it was prior to the pandemic. US companies are turning wells back on and increasing production. This production increase has been in process since last year and should be able to replace the Russian oil we buy within a few months.

Now, that solves the US buying from Russia. That doesn't solve high gas prices. It might help some but when Europe buys 50% of their oil from Russia that makes this once again, repeat with me please, a problem for THE WORLD, not just the US. And no one here in the US can fix that.

Reinserting my earlier post. From what I have found, the US has been ramping up oil production. It looks like they are already doing all they can.

The issue/concern of a NATO-aligned Ukraine picked up speed after the fall of the Russia-friendly regime I think in 2014.  There is a 2015 video of a speaker describing the likelihood of events in play now if Ukraine did not take on a neutral stance.  The speaker said - this will become a disaster for the Ukrainian people.  Some can see the future it appears.

I have seen where some have indicated that the likely goal is to force the current regime to dissolve and  replace it with a pro-Russia puppet.  Russia does want buffer countries.  NATO on their doorstep in a large country is a major issue to Russia.

We’re just beginning to ramp up.  The problem is it takes a lot of time and a lot of manpower to pull oil out of ground, then refine it.  We’re gonna have to kindly ask an established oil producing country for help in the meantime.

How do you negotiate with Russia at this point?  They’re committing war crimes.  All of the generals who are executing orders are also committing war crimes killing civilians.  You can’t escape war crimes they follow you until your last breath.

I have listened to several reports claiming we are talking to both Venezuela and Iran.

Right, there doesn't appear to be any negotiation at this point, either Russia "wins" or Ukraine wins.

I’ve heard the same and that shows how far US oil has fallen.  A sign of times my friend, the USA is asking Iran and Venezuela for help.

I agree, America is sliding down fast and our refusal to produce an abundance of energy is a large part of it.  It is non-sensical...

Facts here.

The US is the top oil producer in the world.

Despite being #1, US oil production has been increasing over the past 6 months.

And now we have mankind's greatest motivator in play to increase oil production as fast as possible - greed.
