Everyone complains about the OT rules in the NFL. They also complain about college and even high school OT rules.

So let's say you were appointed Football Czar tomorrow, what would be the ideal NFL OT Rule that you would put in place?

College? High School?

 

1st and Goal from the 25.  No first down unless by penalty.  Coin flip after each OT period.  Definitely a disadvantage for a defense to be out there 2 possessions in a row so leave that to luck of the call on the coin toss.  

I dont mind it and I'm sure people will hate on me for it. But if your defense can't stop a dude getting his team in FG range with 13 seconds on the clock, or then from driving the field and scoring a TD with the first possession of OT. Why does your team deserve another shot?

Sucks for Josh Allen but his team didn't deserve to have a shot in my opinion.

I don’t have a real solution that I would love for overtime. I hate the randomness of the coin toss. But I actually like the pro overtime as opposed to college or high school because you have to use all facets of the game. I’m not so mad about last night because as was mentioned, you just can’t let a time gain 40 or 50 yards in 13 seconds. 

Don't make the rule sudden death.  Let a team answer if they give up either a score or field goal.  After the first 2 possessions, it becomes sudden death...first team to score wins.

My only real thought is to put 10 minutes on the clock and play it out.

I know people would hate it but I'd give a 5 minute break after the 4th quarter to give the players a little time to get their legs under them. Then play a 10 minute period. If it's still tied, then and only then go to sudden death.

I would be all for a 10 minute break. The Bills defense needed a breather... and they lose the coin toss. It was over once KC won the toss.

This would be my vote, something along these lines. If a team gets the ball first and eats 10:00 of clock, so be it. 

I noticed last night that while the overtime period in the regular season is 10 minutes, last night's overtime was 15 minutes. Maybe I missed that in the past but I was unaware they were different amounts of time.

Same.

I would rather see 1st and 10 from the 25 and the teams alternate similar to how college football was in the recent past.

25 yards isn't enough in the NFL, IMO. It would need to be at least the 40.

I would be fine with that too, I was thinking 35 but typed 25.  

I never have liked OT in the pros because both teams deserve a chance and don't always get one and I don't like any game ending in a tie.

The NFL rules are stupid because the OT rules change for the post-season. There should never be a tie allowed in the NFL, or any sport for that matter.
