Your School's All-Time Starting 5

Featured Replies

Too bad the most talented Topmiller didn't stay with it...

I'd throw Mike Vieth in there too, just for some extra height. :D

I thought about adding Mike Vieth but just because he was 7'0" wasn't going to be my reason to make the team.

What about those Bunton brothers who played for Male? Henry Bacon? Johnny Matheis?......... It could turn into a litany.

Those players could very well belong on a Male all-time team, I admit my knowledge of Male roundball history is a bit incomplete.

How about Dave Druck and Mark Wendel from the late 60's early 70's

I had Wendel on my reserve team.

Doss High School All-Time Starting Lineup

C- Stefon Sheckles College-Tarleton St. Pro Ball- Europe

F- Tony Williams College- Louisville Pro Ball- Europe

F- Jeff Brooks College-Penn St. Pro Ball- ?????

G- David Harrison College- Campbellsville Pro Ball- Europe

G- Derek Anderson College-KY NBA-Portland

Pretty good starting 5 to me.

What about Jason West from the early 90's? You have to add him to the list.

True, Jason was a very good scorer for the Tigers. I wouldnt put him the best 5 but definitely in the Top 10-15 alltime.

I never got to watch Mike Fessler play (he was in '62), but he put up 50 points against Dixie Heights and had the highest scoring average for an individual season with 25.4. It's difficult to leave a guy like that off the list.

Other than that, I'd take Corey Grace ('97?). He was a beast and ended up playing for Thomas More. He went down to Kentucky to attempt to walk-on, but they told him that there were no more spots on the roster. Somebody by the name of Saul Smith took the last one.

It's difficult to leave Andy & Kevin Listerman off the list, but I think there are much more talented players. I'd probably take Nestheide ('04) & Purdon ('01)over them, but that's just my opinion.

Also, Dan Tieman deserves a spot. Anybody who plays behind the Big O has a legit reason for riding the pine. :D

So that leaves me with this:

Dick Maile

Roger Tieman

Randy Noll

Joe Voskuhl

Joe Fritz

Corey Grace

Matt Nestheide

Steve Purdon

Dan Tieman

Andy Listerman

Without knowing the history of CCH, I will agree with you on Corey Grace. He and I have worked together for 4 yrs now and I asked him to play in a YMCA league with me as a filler. He dominated, big hands, great feet and a drop step that nobody stops. If he was 6'8 he would have gone Div 1 I am sure just with this ability to handle the ball at the post.

He also used to play Semi Pro with Damon Flint, Mel Levett and the rest of the UC thugs. He tells us some crazy stories about those days.

Over the last decade at CovCath, my choices would be.......

Matt Nestheide

Todd Jacobs

Steve Purdon

Matt Finke

Brennan Votel

Maybe throw in a Hiltz somewhere in there. Anyone else thinks TJ makes the list (since 1996)?

Since '96?

I'll take:

Matt Nestheide - '04 - Centre

Steve Purdon - '01 - Union College then NKU

Brian Lewin - '02 - Committed to D1 Lafayette, then NKU

Corey Grace - '97 (Can anybody confirm that?) - Thomas More

Brennan Votel - '05 - Penn

Off the bench:

Todd Jacobs - '07

Jim Hiltz - '99? - Walked on at Notre Dame

Jared Overmann - '00

Chad Wachs - '01 - Thomas More

????

There was a really good player at Cov Cath who graduated in 89 and was about 6'6 - in college grew to about 6'9, I think his name was PJ???

Newport Central Catholic:

Ronnie Dawn

Pangalo - there were so many... I remember Nick

John Brannen

The other Brannen

Dave Cowens

Can someone put one together for Bracken County and Deming?

Deming, MOST, MOST definitely Stephen Staggs is on the list.

Bracken County, Adam Reed

Paris High

Brett Eads

Chez Marks

Clinton Simms

Alvin Simms

P.J. Thelen. He had quite a few NBA tryouts but never quite made it. No doubt one of the best players to come from Covington Catholic, but from what I understand he was much better after high school.
