Randy Noll

Was a member of the 67 and 68 CovCath basketball teams that won the 9th Region. Was voted to the sweet sixteen all tournament team in 67. Signed by UK, then transfered to Marshall and played for the 1971-72 #8 nationally-ranked, 23-4 NCAA tournament men's basketball team. Played pro ball in Europe...

 

Joe Vosukhl

Was a man among boys. Was a member of the 68, 69 CovCath teams that won the 9th Region. Is a legion to this day at Tulsa University, and produced a son who stared for UCon when they won the NCAA Championship.

 

Joe Fritz

If only they had the three point shot in his day. Singled handily brought back CovCath to the one point lead in the game against Earlington in one of the greatest shooting effort of any CovCath player in my lifetime. Joe got ripped by not being named to the 1967 State Tournament team so that is my reason for my picking him....

 

I will let the young CovCath Crazies pick a 71 to present day team, but I think they would be hard pressed to beat my team in their day....

Since no one has posted for Fairview I would have to put Don Rigsby, David Rowe, Bobby Clark, Rick Renfroe, Joe Barker and Jeff Hall somewhere on their list.

I would throw in Mike Helton probably the Eagles still leading scorer Sorry folks I posted before I saw the whole thread. That whole Fairview 1990 graduating team was awesaome. Helton, Lockhart, Hammons, can't remember the other 2

Tom Hobbs played in 86,87,88 and could shoot the lights out of it....Glen "Wire " Reliford not only excelled in basketball but football record holder for years....

Hey Big Bopper how come you don't have any players from the last 20 years on your lists? Also, what about David Gaunce(sp?) on your Lewis Co. team, I heard he could really play.

Gaunce was a good ball player and in the past years, Tyler Clark. 3 of those 5 I first mentioned were division 1 players and Shunway was a pure shooter and Bloomfield was a winner. Sorry I didn't mention everyone that played.

I never got to watch Mike Fessler play (he was in '62), but he put up 50 points against Dixie Heights and had the highest scoring average for an individual season with 25.4. It's difficult to leave a guy like that off the list.

 

Other than that, I'd take Corey Grace ('97?). He was a beast and ended up playing for Thomas More. He went down to Kentucky to attempt to walk-on, but they told him that there were no more spots on the roster. Somebody by the name of Saul Smith took the last one.

 

It's difficult to leave Andy & Kevin Listerman off the list, but I think there are much more talented players. I'd probably take Nestheide ('04) & Purdon ('01)over them, but that's just my opinion.

 

Also, Dan Tieman deserves a spot. Anybody who plays behind the Big O has a legit reason for riding the pine.

You're right, and I meant to put him on the list as well. I'd put him on and take Nestheide off. The problem with this thread is whether or not you need to make a "team". If you're listing the top 5 - 10 players, then Nestheide isn't on the list. If you want to put together the best team, then I think he deserves to be mentioned. I can only imagine how effective he'd be with the type of players that they had back in the late '60's.

I agree, Nestheide would have average 20 assists a game.
