Wow, one bowl win and now we're ready to declare UK as possibly being great? Keep in mind this was the first bowl win in 22 years, and that you do still play in the SEC. My personal observation, great teams do not think 8-5 is a good year. I am a Michigan fan. My team went 7-5 last year. It was then declared the worst UM football season in the last half century. I know we're comparing apples and oranges, but then, I guess that's my point really. IMO, UL hasn't even arrived at "great" yet. I would say that they are good, but don't have that marquee win or amazing season that "great" teams have. I can promise you this, never in mine or my kids lifetimes will UK and UL both be powerhouses. I'm glad to see UK get to a bowl and win, but I think you might be setting the bar waaaaaayyyyy too high for this program at this time.
December 30, 200619 yr Whoa, harsh. Chances are many said the same about Louisville not that long ago and now they're a powerhouse. All Warrior asked was could it happen SOMEDAY. I don't believe they will split games against the likes of Vandy, Ole Miss, or MSU for the next several years. This team was incredibly young and should only improve. Losses to UF, UT, LSU, well, you're probably right, but then, a lot of teams would. The positive is that UK competed with UT this year and most of the recent years. Florida and LSU are still out of their league. UL is not a "powerhouse". Powerhouse programs win national titles. They play in BCS bowl games. Now UL has one of those two in their resume after this year, but powerhouse programs don't choke off national title hopes to middle of the road teams from their conference each year. As far as both being great SOMEDAY? Sure, but we definately won't live that long barring some massive breakthrough in medicine.

The best thing that happened to OSU this year is that while they continued to beat UM, Coach Carr managed to keep his job. Buckeyes everywhere breathed a sigh of relief.

And how many times has that happened? Better yet, who did UM "choke" to? It certainly wasn't South Florida or Rutgers............those storied football programs. And I would assume to "choke" that you would have to lose to a team that you were supposed to beat? No?

Maybe I'm just showing my age, but I remember Bo choking big-time in more than a few Rose Bowls. Carr hasn't been good enough to be considered a choker most years by your definition. FYI, I'm not a UofL fan and you are right about the USF game (along with a bunch of bowl choke jobs). Rutgers is a pretty good team. Great young coach, solid running game, solid defensive front. I think they could have beat a lot of teams at their place this season. Are they a one-hit-wonder? Maybe. Michigan shouldn't be dominated by OSU like they have been recently.

Wins against Texas State, Central Michigan, Louisiana Monroe don't impress me much except to say that the Cats used to find a way to lose those games. They had a great win against UGA, won't happen again for 10 or 12 years. They will continue to split games with the likes of Vandy, Ole Miss and State. They will lose to UF, UT, LSU, or whomever else they play that are top tier SEC programs. Somebody post next year's schedule and give us a rundown of how they will do next year. If the Cats go bowling more often than not over the next ten years, then get back to me. Tell the truth Cat fans... When Clemson lined up for that on-side kick with 44 seconds to go down 8... weren't a lot of Cat fans thinking "Oh no, not again". I think it is important to point out that instead of being down 40-0 at halftime to TN and Fla as in most years or losing 73-7 or 65-0 that we actually led or almost led at halftime in both games. LSU was another story of course. But, we are getting better and competitive. As to your second point, I never leave a UK football game, EVER, until the state police walk on the field with the coach and the opposing side shakes hands with our team.

No, the original post asked if "maybe someday both will be powerhouses?" I don't know about you, but I assume that powerhouse means national power. He asked if he was just thinking crazy because of the bowl win today. I simply told him that he was. I am not bashing at all, in fact, I was extremely pleased to see UK win today(even though I am not a UK fan). But, no offense to UK fans, football really has never been their thing, probably never will be(much like Duke). Most years you'd be hard pressed to find two schools from ANY state that are "powerhouses", with the exception(s) of Florida, Texas, and California. To think that two schools would achieve that level from KENTUCKY, is just what the poster said, crazy talk.

No really, all jokes aside. If your the Athletic Director of a University, wouldn't part of your job description be to get your schools football team into a bowl game? You act like it is a bad thing that UK thought ahead and gave theirself a favorable schedule to become bowl eligible. That's the goal, right? UK did exactly what they needed to do this season, and that is go to a bowl game. How can you blame them for doing their best to make it possible. Truth is, they did every thing they needed to do, but still had a strength of schedule in the top 10 this year. So what is there to complain about....Not much if your a UK fan
