What exactly have they (UL) done to be considered a national power? Sure, they're further along than UK is, but national power? C'mon.

They have been in the Top 5 for most of the season....If they win this game, and do much of the same next year, the are in that breath, I hate to bust your bubble.

I think it takes a little more than that. My bubble is just fine, had it rotated and balanced just yesterday actually. I would like to see UL up there some day, it would be good for the state as a whole. But given UL's recent bowl history, I don't think a win against Wake Forest will deem them national power status.

This is their third legit season of being very good....A fourth is coming next....that is the start of consistency, add to that the fact, that this season they will have their finest recruiting class ever, and it sure doesn't look as if the end is nigh.

This talk about UK's schedule being weak is an absolute joke. LSU, UL, Florida, Tennessee on the road. Look I'll give you Texas St. and UL Monroe but the other 10 games were either conference games, UL, or a good Central Michigan team. Not to mention beating Clemson in the MCB. By the way a Clemson team that beat the other Orange Bowl team and was ranked in the top 10 at one point.

 

You can discount UK's season as a flash in the pan if you wish and until they back it up with another good season then it would be difficult to make a legitimate arguement to the contray. But let's drop the scheduling crap, it doesn't hold water.

C'mon UK fans don't do this to yourselves yet again.

 

1. When Jerry Claiborn was hired he was going to bring Kentucky back to national prominence.
   
2. When Bill Curry was hired he was going to mirror the success he had at GaTech and Bama.
   
3. After Hal Mumme won some games with smoke and mirrors UK re-named a street after him only to wath that "program" crash and burn.
   
4. In Guy Morriss you had a coach in place who won with what was there and yet your AD let him get away.
   
5. In Rich Brooks you have an overall loser who was living in retirement from coaching because no one wanted him. He dumbed down the schedule to get bowl eligible and beat an uninspired team in a death spiral in that bowl game.
   

 

Accept that the curse of the Bear is still in full effect and that one of the things it does is give you a decent (I won't say good based on the quality of wins that UK had) season every once in a while only to watch you have your hopes shattered.

Then how do you explain all the empty "potest" seats week in and week out at Commonwealth? I'm guessing that when Brooks has a losing season next year he will be on the hot seat yet again.

You brag about their schedule, and then the first four teams you mentioned all beat the Cats....3 of them somewhat handily...two of them kicked their tails in....EVERYONE knows what this season's schedule was supposed to do for them, and it did it.....now, the bar has been raised, and the schedule has been upgraded, bowl or bust for UK in '07, IMO.

I visit UK boards on occasion and I know for a fact that there was a very vocal group of fans that were calling for Brooks' head after he lost to Louisville yet again and after some of the lackluster wins against "bought" wins. He is just a few losses from having his head on the block again.

You're right, there were many calling for his head. Does that mean they were right? Clearly I think not. The team has improved each year he's been there and the recruiting is as good as its been. Most of the starters are back and many underclassman played big minutes.

I don't have to brag about UK's schedule, it is ranked 12th nationally. I think many, yourself included, are discounting some pretty good wins by UK. Central Michigan was a quality opponent, Georgia beat Va. Tech last night, and Clemson was ranked 10th at one point. Put UK in a lesser conference like, well lets say the Big East and there would be no need to schedule Texas St. or UL Monroe because there would be comparable teams on their conference schedule.

 

Please understand I'm not taking shots at UofL or anyone else. But UK started the season with basically 5 losses (UL, Florida, Tennessee, LSU, Georgia), 2 certain wins (Texas St., UL Monroe), and 5 toss ups (South Carolina, Ole Miss, Mississippi St., Cent. Michigan, Vandy,). I think winning 8 games was quite a feat.
