Pikeville has gotten through its very tough non district schedule finally, and it’s time for district play. Pikeville rolled off 5 straight wins against Paintsville, Letcher County Central, Wheelersburg (OH), Belfry, and a Covid win against Bourbon County. The past two games have been battles. Pikeville lost to Lexington Christian Academy 31-14 two weeks ago. This past week Pikeville lost a heartbreaker to Madison Central 21-19.  This week Pikeville has Sayre on the schedule for a big district matchup. Pikeville sent Sayre packing last season in the first round of the playoffs with a 49-13 win. Sayre come into that game last year at 8-0. This year Sayre comes into this matchup at 6-0. They have two solid wins over Frankfort and Williamsburg. They have hit the gauntlet part of the schedule this year with Williamsburg last week, now Pikeville, then Hazard, Phelps after that (should be a win),and finish the season against Bethlehem.

Who wins this big district matchup? Does Pikeville flex its muscles after two straight losses? Does Sayre shock the 1A world again with another big time win.

I think the only way Pikeville loses this game is if they have to forfeit due to Covid.

After watching Pikeville the last two weeks @ LCA & @ Madison Central, unless they have some injuries they should have no problem with Sayre.

Pikeville is ready for this type of game by the opponents they've played, Sayre not so much.

I'd go ahead & do the call ahead seating at the Texas Roadhouse that is a few miles from Pikeville's stadium, for the post game meal, it usually gets packed on Friday nights.

The list of teams in 1A that have the combination of quarterback and skill people to compete with Pikeville is very short, but Sayre is on it. McNamee and Pennington are the two best QBs in the class and Lockhart, Birchfield, and Marshall are as good as you'll find at the small school level. Marshall has at least one FBS offer.

Give Pikeville a big edge at the line of scrimmage and in strength of schedule, which is why I think they take this game comfortably.

Look for Sayre to have its moments, though. The Spartans are coming in hot. Don't be surprised if they ride that momentum to a great showing this week, win or lose. But also don't be surprised if Pikeville flexes on them, reminding us all that maybe they're still who we thought they were, even after consecutive losses.

Sayre is scoring 40 points per game. They will need to score at least that much to win this game. I think Sayre scores less than 30 for the first time this year.

I’m with you. This feels like a 39-14 win for Pikeville.
