Combined opponent records through 6 weeks (assuming Beechwood beats Dixie Friday night)

LCA  26-10 (5 loses via Belfry all others with 1 loss to LCA) 

Beechwood  13-22

Mayfield  12-22

 

 

Here is a question for everyone.

Should a defending state champion returning basically their entire team who is undefeated against a good schedule be dropped from #1?

Another question.

Why should the team that the undefeated defending state champion beat head to head in the title game move ahead of them?

 I see both teams resumes this year. LCA has very good wins. No one knows that Beechwood would not be undefeated against LCA's schedule also.  This is a situation where it is too close in my opinion to drop the undefeated defending state champion from number one. Beechwood is #1 till someone beats them.

Not according to the BGP 2A Rankings. ?

I was suprised Beechwood won the title game last year and thought to my myself they likely would have gone 2 or 3 in 10 VS LCA.  The thing is Beechwood only had to win 1 time and they did.  Now in 2021 the way LCA has dismantled some of the top teams in the state coupled with what I thought last year leads me to wonder if they are the best team in 2A or is it Beechwood.  It seems about 50/50 to me.  I would certainly never ever count Beechwood out.

We are close here, I thought Beechwood would have won 3 or 4 out of 10 against LCA last year but as we all know the Tigers won the game that mattered.

Does it really matter who is ranked where in the polls other than RPI? Barring some type of major major upset or covid loss in the next 4 games the 2A RPI from 1-2-3 is not going to change. Beechwood can go ahead and book their busses to War Memorial this week.

I wouldn't etch anything in stone.  Beechwood opponents seem to keep winning.  Mayfield opponents seem to keep losing.  I have a feeling Beechwood passes them in the RPI, but who knows.

McCracken County being terrible is not good for Mayfield, as well as Tilghman and Hopkinsville being down.

From a ranking perspective, other then RPI, I don’t think it matters one bit. Actually if I’m either Beechwood or LCA, I say let the other team be ranked ahead of me in the polls. Better to be the hunter then the hunted. 

What happened in the RPI in the last week? We need to track these numbers week to week and see what happens.. They don't show you in the RPI if somebody gained ground or lost ground.

I'm pretty certain the top 3 won't change. They may change from 1-3 with each other, but the top three are going to be there at the end. I will say this, if Green County somehow makes a region title game or a semi, I'd rather play Beechwood than LCA. I believe the Dragons would match up much better with Beechwood than LCA. With that said, LCA and Beechwood are 4-5 TD favorites over everyone not named Mayfield, and I'd still take those two over Mayfield by at least 2 Tds.
