We the Cardinals of Scott County is coming to Frederick Douglass to take on the Broncos for the 7th time in the Broncos brief history. The teams are tied all-time at 3-3 . Scott Co. won 3 of the first 4 but Douglass has won the last two. They have been pretty evenly matched all-time Scott Co. has outscored Douglass by 3 points 152-149. This season they have played three common opponents Bryan Station, Lafayette, and PLD. Douglass defeated all 3 teams while Scott Co. won two out of 3 with them. Douglass defeated Station 27-14, Lafayette 50-0, and PLD 56-13. Scott Co. lost to Station 25-21 they defeated Lafayette 41-0, and PLD 55-0.

One thing that could help Douglass some when Henry Clay cancelled early last week it gave them an extra 4 days to work on defending against the wing T. The Douglass defense so far this season has only allowed 37 rushing yards per game to go along with allowing less than 7 points per game while averaging 46 points per game. The Cardinals are scoring 32 points per game while allowing 17 per game. Scott Co. will attempt to control the ball and the clock by pounding it on the ground to attempt to Broncos keep the Douglass offense on the sideline as much as possible.

This is will be the first challenge for the Broncos since their opening game Aug. 20th at Bryan Station. I believe that the Broncos are a little to athletic and quick for the Cardinals but the Broncos will need to not turn the ball over or have a lot of unnecessary penalties. If they do that I feel they are a double digit better team, but that's why they play the game.

Scott Co. is very fortunate to only be down 12 as the Broncos have dominated everything but the scoreboard. When you hang around anything can happen. I think Coach McKee will be happy to only be down

Douglass gets their 2nd safety of the night to go up 28-0 and then ran the kickoff back to the Scott Co. 3 yard line. Next play Douglass scores again to make it 35-0 with 2:30 to play.

  • This one has the potential to get ugly I think. Scott County is not the Scott County of old and Douglass is very good. Add in the fact that there’s no love lost between the two schools and it’s a reci

Whoa whoa whoa there lol. Douglass won the 2020 playoff game 39-21, 2019 regular season 36-0, and 2019 playoff game 24-14, and 2018 regular season 28-10.

Broncos are up 4 games to 3. Frederick Douglass has outscored TTUN 188-173 in a 7 game series that saw Douglass lose 13-45 and 21-55 in their inaugural season.

It's not that Douglass will overlook TTUN, but it's the fact that they have solved their wing-t so decisively, it shows all the flaws of that philosophy. When the wing t stalls, you inevitably put your defense in bad field position constantly. Their defense has NOT had an answer for the Douglass O virtually the last 5 games. And at some point,  you force a QB who clearly is not an elite passer already to have to sell a fake run, to throw a likely wobbly duck of a pass 30 yards downfield...

The last three matchups have all been similar. Douglass methodically marches downfield, and within one or two series, scores. TTUN goes 2-3 series with 2-3 punts. Once TTUN is down two scores, you know a flea flicker or reverse pass is coming. It gets intercepted, or QB is sacked. Wash and repeat. Insert 2nd stringers.

The 2018 playoff loss (27-28) really shaped the current Douglass offensive gameplan. That season, QB Cam Jones (current Cincinnati Bearcat) was just airing it out to Dekel Crowdus, Micah Lowe and Haiden Hunt. 50, 60, 70 yard TD bombs were the norm for Douglass. However, the 2019 playoff game against TTUN stopped that. FD came out no huddle, and threw incompletion after incompletion on a cold night. TTUN kept the ball on the ground, and won the time of possession by far in the 1st half. Seemed like they had the ball the whole time. I think they were up 28-7 at the half.

The 2nd half was a different story. Douglass remembered they had a really great back by the name of DeMarco Fishback who gained 1296 rushing yards in 12 games that year. They went to the run, and short quick passes to get 3 unanswered scores, BUT missed the  PAT as time expired.

Since then, the Broncos have bought in completely to mixing runs with the short passing game, IMO to prevent a team from ever having the time of possession TTUN did in that 2019 playoff first half. It shows in their film. It shows last season, with the production  that Key had, even though Crowdus was in the lineup. And now, the numbers that Dunn is now providing the team.

The level of defense that TTUN has this season though? I think there will be a TON of Douglass vertical passes. Their secondary is suspect, and the Bronco OC knows it. The real competition in Scott County is Great Crossing, and I think Douglass puts the Warhawks on notice this Friday.

49-10 Douglass.

Best team in 5A - Douglas big.

35-7

This one has the potential to get ugly I think. Scott County is not the Scott County of old and Douglass is very good. Add in the fact that there’s no love lost between the two schools and it’s a recipe for a long night for Coach McKee and the Cards…

Sorry I did miss that one thank you.

30 minutes til kickoff, and not a huge audience on either side... I would have expected quite a decent crowd... And keep in mind Douglass is virtually right off the highway exit. I guess everyone is tailgating somewhere?
