December 24, 200619 yr OSU has proven that a)you must play defense to win and b)they cannot play defense. That is the thing that struck me the most. Absolutely horrid. The first 5-6 minutes they did a decent job of defending the high ball screen and threw doubles at Greene, but as the game wore on, they did very little of that. Penetration by Greene and Brewer hurt them. Transition defense was non-existent the last 15 minutes of the half. In the game thread, I asked if Matta was coaching. Not trying to be overly critical, but there were very few times that I saw anything of structure out there. Conley dribbling here and Conley dribbling there. They are very young and talented, but there doesnt seem to be any structure. Florida had 3 big guys they could run out there and body Oden and did a great job of blocking out. Florida was making shots and got on a roll.
December 24, 200619 yr Yet, he is "another level" of player in comparison to Randolph Morris. To be fair, he did go up against the best 1-2 punch in college basketball...
December 24, 200619 yr To be fair, he did go up against the best 1-2 punch in college basketball... I'll be interested in seeing how Morris does against those two.
December 24, 200619 yr Matta is the total 180 of Tubby... You got that right. Matta got the talent to campus, but appears to have no idea what to do with it. If Tubby had a chance to teach these kids how to play the D, they would be very scary. Too bad he can't seem to get these type of players onto campus. Hard to say what is better. If Matta's boys can't win it all this year, its likely 2 or 3 of them will be gone. On the other hand, Tubby's boys would probably require quite a bit of luck to go their way to get it done this year, but I sure can't wait to see how they will be in 2 or 3 years.
December 24, 200619 yr Matta did take Butler to the tournament and lead X to the Elite 8, so I'd say he can coach a bit. His players are young, Oden didn't play a great game today, and they'll need that in March, and I'm sure we'll see it. Florida is a veteran team, playing in the national spotlight, they like that, their fans like that, it was a hostile I can guarantee you that the Bucks won't see that type of atmosphere much more, good learning experience, I wouldn't want to see those either team in March.
December 24, 200619 yr Lots of negatives towards the Buckeyes (can't play defense, Matta can't coach. haven't beaten anyone). I for one will give UF a little credit for blowing them out of the gym. When Florida gets everyone back at full strength, they will be scary good.

December 24, 200619 yr Florida has been there and done that. They are still the team to beat as of right now. I really thought Ohio St had an opportunity to jump on Florida early forcing some turnovers, but instead of going to the basket they settled for 3s that they were not hitting. Way too much outside shooting for Ohio St in the 1st half. I didnt watch the 2nd half, sounds like it was ugly.
