The Raven
From Wikipedia: "Film title design is a term describing the craft and design of motion picture title sequences . Since the beginning of the film form, it has been an essential part of any motion picture. Originally a motionless piece of artwork called title art, it slowly evolved into an artform of its own." The king of film title design was a gentleman named Saul Bass (sometimes in collaboration with his wife Elaine.) From Psycho to Goodfellas and Casino, his classics are too numerous to mention. Here are a couple of my favorites. Cowboy (1958) Walk on the Wild Side (1962) (Widely considered the best Title Design, ever) Sometimes, even movies I disliked have great title sequences. Like Breaking Dawn, Part 2. Hated the movie, but the title design told me all I needed to know up until then. Something that was once warm and alive, is now cold and dead. Design by Ana Criado-Zahonero One of the best working today is a man named Randall Balsmeyer, often working with Spike Lee, who's films I tend to love, so maybe it makes me biased. Some of the best from Spike Lee Joints: He Got Game (1998) Da Sweet Blood of Jesus (2014) And my favorite Title Design of all time. Mo' Better Blues (1990.). It does the perfect job of setting up the story you will be told. What will be more important to Bleek Gilliam? Love of his music or the love of his woman.
