I thought it was said or known that the 9th region refs tend to call games tighter. If you are used to playing a more physical brand of basketball wouldn't that lend itself to more foul calls when you are used to being allowed more contact. It's hard to adjust your game on the fly when its not what you are used to. By that reasoning also CovCath is used to playing with these 9th region refs and know what they can "get away" with?

I'm glad a Tomcat fan that actually saw the game finally chimed in. From what I've seen  posted so far, they're forming opinions based on radio broadcasts and text messages. I've watched the Livestrea

  • That’s not home cooking, that’s home broiling.

  • No dog in this fight, but I have to agree that there a few schools up here that the refs have a severe bromance for. It’s not like these teams need the help either.

9th Region refs used to call very tight games, but that has slowly changed over the last 20 years. I think today the 9th is as physical a region as their is in the state. Just my two cents.

Couldn't have said it better. The spread was 10 points or so the entire night.

I was at the game. Cov Cath is a very nice team. Obviously don't get alot of fouls called when shooting 3s. They never called any fouls on putting pressure on our PG. Almost pulled Villers shorts off at half ct, no call plain view. Someone said that is one of the better crews?????  One guy probably only made 3 calls entire game. They spent a good bit of time before the game fraternizing with CC team. 30 to 2 is just way tot big of discrepancy. Also someone on here commented that it was do to Ashland fouling in the 4th. It was 22 to to at that point.

I've watched the Livestream three times and kept a score book twice to make sure I've got an idea of how the game progressed. @Scoops

Two of those refs have worked Sweet 16 finals games, so I'm going to suggest that maybe they have a fair amount of experience and are highly rated. Since there is video available, if anyone wants to forward it to the KHSAA or the 9th Region officials assigning secretary (I believe it is Mr. Pouncy) for potential sanctioning, those are some options. As to the fraternizing with the Cov Cath, *everybody knows the Park Hills Mafia paymaster sits on the bench with those fat cash envelopes*. I didn't see this from the video angle, but are you sure you're not mistaking polite conversation with collusion?

As to fouls on Porter from pressure defense on the floor, I've got two listed: 1 by McHale at in Q1 (CC's 1st foul) and 1 by Starks in Q3 (CC's 9th foul/3rd of the second half). Ashland wasn't in the bonus in either half - no FTs for Porter.

Those last 8 FTAs of the game were all Double Bonus 1+1s called on the floor, so Cov Cath *created* 4 of those FTAs by hitting the front end of those.

Those 4 fouls in Q4 for the 8 FTs:

Ipsaro fouled by Porter at 2:00. Ashland's 14th foul of the game / 7th of the half > Dbl bonus. Ipsaro: make/make. Score: CC 59 - A 45.

Murphy fouled by Sellers at 1:13. A's 15th foul. Murphy: make/make. Score: CC 61 - A 47.

Starks fouled by Atkins at 0:40.8. A's 16th foul. Starks: make/make. Score: CC 65 - A 50.

Murphy fouled by Sellers at 0:28.1. A's 17th foul. Murphy: make/make. Score: CC 71 - A 56.

I'm not a pro, but  I've got every shot from this game logged and clocked. Complaining about FT discrepancies is a bad faith take if you don't put *the actual foul* in the context of its type/location/time.

FINAL FOUL TOTALS: Ashland 17 - Cov Cath 12

Cov Cath fouls by Quarter: 2-4-3-3 = 12

Ashland fouls by Quarter: 5-2-4-6 = 17

FOUL TOTALS BY TYPE:

Cov Cath: 10 on the floor, 1 on the shot, and 1 offensive foul.

Ashland: 7 on the floor, and 10 on the shot.

BY PLAYER - COV CATH: Starks 4; McHale 3; Rylee 2; Murphy 2; Stocks 1

BY PLAYER - ASHLAND: Marcum 5*; Sellers 4; Billers 3; Atkins 3; Porter 2

Next time, we'll talk about the game's 1st half, when Rylee and Stocks missed 5 layups *on purpose* while being fouled, just so the refs would give them an extra 5 FTAs. As a bonus, we'll feature Porter's 3 turnovers on consecutive Q1 possesions, and Cov Cath's 36-20 rebounding advantage.

Heck, I'll be here all week, and I've got receipts. Try the veal, and don't forget to tip your waiter and the hat check girl.

CCH plays bully ball and usually has a free throw discrepancy in most games because they play down low most of the game...not sure why we are still talking about a game almost a week ago. Good luck to you guys the rest of the season.
