The average fan if they really wanted to, could probably come up with a $1000 for an experience of a lifetime to go to a playoff game at their home field. I’ve always agreed with your point that automatic qualifiers are a no go. No reason for a team with 4 losses to automatically get in. The 4 highest ranked champions is a good compromise because the odds of 4 power 5 champions being ranked around 4 anyways is pretty good. Only Alabama and Ohio State have gotten in without winning their conference anyways and the team that won the conference was either in the playoff (Georgia) or right on the edge (Penn State). 

I'm not sure season ticket holders would be a lock to get tickets. I'm sure some would, maybe a lot. That said, I think any on campus scenario would include more tickets for the opposing team than a normal home game.

Glad you said this. Some people seem to think this changes things for the G5, and IMO it doesn't change much at all. Sure they may get into the Top 12, but they still aren't winning a National Championship. This is 90% optics, and once the new-ness of 12 teams wears off, we'll be looking at the exact same 3-5 champions every year.

Most likely. Now if there were same way to actually pull the true top 12 teams in the nation, there could be a little more variation, but not much. There is not a three point line, foul trouble, or a singular pro talent that can pull you along like in basketball. Football more than any other sport is about depth and attrition. The big boys have it, most do not. A 9-2 Bowling Green team is not going to reel off three or four straight wins versus upper-echelon P5 schools.

The sooner people can accept this (kinda shocking they haven't), the sooner we can enjoy CFB without worrying about who "deserves" a shot. 

12 Team playoff system.... more risk of injury to players who have much at stake... big paychecks & financial security for their families. 

Also, significantly reduces the importance of regular season games.... many of which have made college football special and different from the others. 

I know I am in the very small minority.... but still convinced the old bowl system was best for college football. 

I really wish I didn't think that. I cringe when I see where this is headed. Wish I was excited about the changes. 

I will admit.... very biased. Some of my happiest days, ever, were watching bowl games with my Dad on New Year's Eve & New Year's Day. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I think with NIL now implemented the big teams will just be stronger now. No group of 5 team going to be able to compete with the amount of money kids will get going to Power 5 conference teams and especially the SEC teams where football is a religion.

Reducing scholarships would spread the wealth but would shut more kids out of opportunities by forcing some kids from D1 down to D2 and so on. More scholarships equals more opportunities for kids.

So basically the formula of the rich will eat will continue. I am not sure it will change balance of power much more or less than it already has.

It's definitely a possibility.  However, I'll be very interested in seeing how the "backups" (the 2nd and 3rd stringers) are going to view/use this.  They could go to a Bama or OSU and maybe only sniff the field on special teams the first year or two, or maybe even be asked to red-shirt a year, because of all the players that are there ahead of them (both in experience and maybe talent).  Now, if that same player could go to a different team (although perhaps not as much of a blue blood) and have a much more likely chance to start their freshman or sophomore season...which one is going to allow them to "cash in" on their NIL more?

Look, the higher level talent is always going to get attracted by the big fish.  That's not going to change with this.  The kids will just be able to profit off of it.  But, I do see a possibility (as naive as I may be) where the depth of a lot of teams could be challenged by other schools.  Now, whether that other school comes from the lower-middle portion of another P5 conference, or from a G5 team, I don't know.

I think you will have big boosters over pay to make their program look better for recruiting purposes.
