Bowling Green finished with 240 yards of total offense to CovCath's 207 yards. Game felt more lopsided than that, but I guess the +4 turnover margin in favor of the Purples made it feel that way. The Colonel defense has presented problems for the Purples the past two seasons.

Well it was definitely lopsided.  Stats are really deceiving which is why watching the game play is so important.

The Colonel's were never a threat to win the game once BG scored. If BG's offense hadn't been off it could have easily been 41-0.  In this type of game 20-0 might as well had been 40-0.

I don't know about that. Anything is possible in a 1 score game. But once BG scored on the two short fields from turnovers, the game was essentially over.

Might BG's offense have been off due to the CCH defense? 

 

CCH D has been really stout all year. However, with all those turnovers CCH never really had a shot once BG scored the second time.

I believe it was a mixture of CCH’s great D-Line and poor play calling by BG.  Their defense will continue to make them title contenders in the coming years.

Wow!!! Congrats BG on the win. 
I now have even bigger concerns with head to head matchup results.

The D Line of CCH was by far the strength of the unit. They have dealt with numerous injuries throughout the season and didn't have but half the games with them all healthy. Even on Friday one of them was playing with a stress fracture in the lower back per the broadcast. 

I did think it was odd that BG didn't try to throw the ball down the field more. When teams have had success against CCH D it has been attacking the DB's down the field.

I thought Luke Stegman #65 might have been CovCath's best player last Friday.  I believe he played OLine quite a bit, but was a standout to me on the Dline with 12 tackles, 1 TFL and 1 sack.  Terrific effort.

Puzzling about BG not throwing in down field more, but is what it is.

The play calling this year has been quite iffy, it almost seemed to me that the OC was being very conservative and didn’t want to take any chances.  As mentioned above, Stegman is a UNIT.

Great kid from a fantastic family. His older brother, dad, and all of his uncles played football at Cov Cath. His grandpa was one of the guys on the committee that helped procure the property for Cov Cath to finally get a football field back in the late 70s.

Luke started at linebacker last year, but was starting at tackle on defense this year, and started at RT on offense.

Cooper was 5-16 on his passes for 58 yards I wouldn’t be throwing the ball either... gotta give credit where credit is due. Our center couldn’t handle the nose guard all night, that put immediate pressure on Cooper.. and clogged his vision. When you’re a coach you know your personelle and what they can do, along with the team you’re facing. I respect the calls that have been made on offense, and I shouldn’t have to be defending it in the first place. I agree that getting the ball to Dingle should be a priority when available, but asking for a true spread offense with our wide outs and quarterback isn’t a good idea. With that said Cooper is an electric athlete with the ball in his hands, he just happens to play quarterback. The staff will continue to make calls that suit their players, the philosophy changes with the players and their strengths... There are a lot of hours of preparations that goes into a game plan, and those hours along with a great defense has put us at Kroger field!!

It's been very iffy and inconsistent. Sometimes it's spot on and other times it's terrible.

I think you’ll find that among the handful of BG posters on the thread, all but one will acknowledge that some of BG’s offensive struggles were a result of CCH’s defense.

He's pretty good at basketball too. I believe he's a 3 year starter coming into this season January, I'm excited to see him on the hardwood too!
