Why should Red County cancel football?

Featured Replies

Are people thinking this through? Or are they mindlessly following the Pied Piper over the cliff?  I understand tracking COVID spread and why we should have the red county system for a broad geographic area.  However, for a contained group of people, like a football team why should that matter?  Football teams have done a great job of minimizing infections. Canceling games because of general fears that they might spread infection doesn't make sense to me when we have three months of proven evidence that football games do not spread infection. Adding in the fact we are talking playoff games and reducing games every week, why not play on? Let these players and coaches finish what they started.

I agree VoR.

Red is an "arbitrary number," nothing more, nothing less.

Said this for weeks. The system was designed for counties to go red because the numbers to get to red are so low. 25 cases per 100,000 is .025%.

The system is flawed. Bottom line.

.025% so way way lower than .25. 100 would be .1%.

You are correct. Forgot my 0

I get concerns for spread but as long as protocols are followed, sports events could be the safest place to be at.

If it's not been proven that the high school football games has been a spreader of the virus, I see no reason to not finish out the season.  For the schools they will be back playing year after year but for this group of kids there is no do over.  #LetThemPlay

The places that are spreading the disease the most is nursing homes and prisons not high school sporting events.

Also warehousing industry and production facilities. Fedex/Krogers/USPS are taking hits.

I sure wish the KHSAA would have their 11/18 meeting THIS week with nothing going on this upcoming weekend.  Are we having the playoffs or not?  Is the bracket unchanged or not?  It would sure save a lot of teams time and trouble doing their preparation prior to the first games on Friday night 11/20.  Two days notice is not good IMO.

I wouldn’t think that meeting will have anything to do with current playoffs for football. More of a winter sport meeting I would assume.

Either shutdown the country again, or let the kids play...

The  numbers don’t make sense...

I was basing my comments on the content of this post from another thread.

“Contact tracing.”

If everyone who met these quarantine standards in healthcare was quarantined by “contact tracing,” there would be no one left to work.

Good point.
