We've only seen Douglass play two games against an opponent of any real substance so far. That's a small sample size. If they put the screws to LCA, then we might see another change at the top next week.

I remembered seeing pictures and highlights and wondering how good he really was. Then when I watched that 5A championship game I was like my god this is a grown man.

Like many of us I have stood next to him in person and of course we all see how he fits in at Notre Dame now.  I expect him to play on Sundays. 

Switching back to 5A, again, I love the unknown this year and look forward to following it closely all season. 

After watching CCH to start the season, I have a hard time imagining they are the best team in 5A. If Cincy LaSalle was still on the schedule, that would be a bloodbath. I still think they’re a good team, and have a chance to go undefeated in the regular season, but missing the top guys to put them over the top.

The best thing about "early" rankings is they almost always work themselves out.

Who knows if they are best team in 5A. CovCath has shown the ability to be very good - 1st half against Dixie and the 2nd half against Beechwood. Lots of season left to play and that's what an inexperienced/uneven team needs to improve.

As far LaSalle goes, I guess it depends on your definition of bloodbath. The Lancers beat Manual 17 - 7. I suspect CovCath is as good as Manual.

LaSalle beat Moeller by 2 this past Friday so they might not be as good as originally thought. Still good though.

This is absolutely a fair point on LaSalle and I probably overestimated them, however, I would be surprised if the game was close. When you're in a battle with Dixie and Beechwood, I'm not expecting you to compete with LaSalle. 

Anyway, I think there are a lot of good high school players on the team (Reardon, Caleb, Dickhaus, Stegman, Schneider) and I like what I've seen from some of the young guys like Jones and Benke however they are missing 1 or 2 difference makers to push them over the top. I hope I'm wrong and we win 5A again, however I don't see it currently.

And when I watched them in the state finals last season the gap wasn’t near as wide as I thought it would be.

Like others have said, the amount of depth in this class along with the fact that there’s no obvious favorite should make for an interesting postseason.

I agree, I thought the teams were almost equal. 

Without Mayer Freddy wins it all.  Of course who ever had Mayer stood a good chance of winning it all.

I thought the SW and BG game showed 5A is wide open.  SW, BG, FD, CCH, and others all have shot.
