South Warren 10 Bowling Green 7

I hate to be "that guy", but I think I had this. ?

From the prediction thread:

"Maybe no one will have to, because we have a 10-7 type defensive game where special teams play a crucial role. I think that's way more likely than a shootout, given how good both teams are, defensively."

I'm not right very often, so let me savor this. ?

I'm sure not having Dez Wilson hurt since one less great player have to account for.

I hate to be "that guy" too but I liked it, can I get half credit? ?

I'm in a giving mood, so yes, you get half credit.

It was a long ride home.  First I want to congratulate South Warren on a hard earned win.  They made the plays they needed to in order to win the game and that's what they did.

I felt the first half was a complete draw.  Yes, South had a few more opportunities but IMO the BG defense made better plays in that half to negate those.

In the second half, South used their bubble screen and timely runs to march down the field and get the points they needed.  For Bowling Green, in the second half, they completely abandoned the pass and tried to run the ball on 80 yard drives against a defense that is built to stop that.  Everyone knows this.  I don't understand that.  When they finally broke out of that on the last drive they went down and scored their only possession in the red zone.  Where were the roll outs for Cooper with run/pass option that worked so well against St X and PRP?  What could have been?

No rest either with a very good McCracken County team coming to BG next week.

But I hope the Purples get another shot at the Spartans this year.

You are a class act Purple 88. Looking forward to BG/McCracken!

Running straight at a team who’s main strength is run defense.  Along with that, not utilizing the weapons they have on the perimeter, including their monster of a TE. Many other offensive things of course, but overall just not great.  South Warren deserves credit though, their defense is good as it always is.

With Dez Wilson out BG has NO weapons on the perimeter.  Sure Dingle is a big time player, but he is a TE that is easily taken away when you have no other threats.  It may be the worst group of receivers BG has had in some time.

Whoever this kid is who was making his first start, exposed the defense multiple times.  Eli Burwash is one of the most athletic receivers on the field, period. They have weapons, they just have to learn how to use them.  Dez being out makes it that much harder.  We can agree to disagree, I saw what I saw and you saw what you saw.  I’ll always believe in that coaching staff after seeing how they’ve transformed mediocre/bad players into varsity starters, all they need is athleticism.

Completely agree here.  And for some reason BG's offensive strategy was planned to go at South Warren's strengths.  What?  And they had two weeks to prepare too.

Great win for South Warren, could be huge come playoff time.

Just a thought, but maybe BG didn't want to show too much, anticipating a November rematch. With home field not counting for much this year, it may have been worth risking a road game at South Warren if it meant they could save something for later that might give the Purples an edge.

In general, I don't believe in that philosophy unless you have a home run trick play or something along that line. I go in the complete opposite direction. I run what I think will work and find out in this game what works and what doesn't. If I find something that works, I now  know they have to game plan to stop that and I build off of it in the rematch. I come right back with it in the rematch and see if they can stop it. Then I go to my new options off of it.
