Question About The Riots

Featured Replies

I agree it is going to be horrible for policing and therefore America.

Nearly all of the mandatory training sessions for police officers the next couple of years are going to revolve around the riots. It will be videos, examples, testimonials, statistics, etcetera, of police officers being assaulted and killed.

Police can stop all future riots regarding these issues from happening.

I will simply list some things that have videos associated with them that are odd, bizarre over the last few days. I would like add some information or opinion or snappy comment - I have none. But here they are.

- LEO shooting a news crew with paintballs (Louisville)

- LEO shooting at residences who are standing on their own porch at their own house with high velocity paintball/rubber bullets. Platoon leader calls out - "light 'em up". (Minnesota)

- LEO watching and laughing while a white woman paints things like "BLM", "Floyd" on businesses windows in broad daylight with no group around.

- LEO shoots a person who not part of any protest but is recording a squad of LEO at point-blank range after they have mostly walked by (San Antonio)

- A white "protestor" in black garb and goggles breaking businesses windows as he walks by - not part of any group or protest (Louisville)

- State police protect a "raid" on organized pre-staged anti-tear-gas depot of water and milk (Louisville)

- Stacks of bricks apparently pre-staged in random locations in various cities.

They aren't trying to hear this.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of people have already made up their minds on police perception. We just have to hope the 99% of the honorable force, continues to show up to protect us.

Police can stop all future riots regarding these issues from happening.

Are you saying human beings do not have free will?

Do share, I'd say they'd like to put a stop to it sooner rather than later.

Adding other things - not necessarily odd or bizarre but worthy of knowing.

- A UFC fighter actively taking spray paint cans from white, black garbbed "protesters" in the middle of a street at night. The kids just hand it over like 5 years olds. (Albuquerque)

- Same UFC fighter going in with crew to help businesses clean during the day.

- A LEO spokesperson in Richmond (not sure if CA or VA) break down at the podium describing how "protesters" had set a house on fire, with a child inside and then attacked the fire-fighting unit coming in.

- "Protesters" try to stop a pick-up with a large horse trailer and attack it. They set a horse on fire inside the trailer. Truck/trailer run over a "protester" - a white woman - who is trying t hold her back to the grill of the truck for some reason. Woman apparently lived and is OK. The horse died of its burn injuries. (Tulsa)

- The picture of men making a wall around a LEO who is isolated to protect him from others in front of Bearnos. (Louisville)

Cincy police will start you at $17 an hour to deal with this.

I'm saying stop killing unarmed black people and there won't be a need to protest the killings of unarmed black people.

Has anyone actually researched the numbers on how many unarmed people are killed by police every year? Recent years?

To answer your questions, yes. The numbers are incredibly low. And yes, social media would have you believe it is open season for law enforcement against African Americans. I get that. It is nowhere near how it is perceived.

Where the rub is though, why do we accept this as collateral damage? It is kind of like the COVID-19 thing in that we are conditioned to believe there is a segment of the population which will die because of COVID-19, so we should not inconvenience everyone else to spare X amount of lives. And being 100 here, where I get nervous is that we are aiming for utopia... which we should be. But one bad apple can set back the conversation for years. Trying to say "it is just one bad apple" is not constructive dialogue, even if it is the truth.

Is the number higher than zero?

Trying to say "it is just one bad apple" is not acceptable.

Especially when the majority doesn't do anything to remove the "few bad apples."

I am pretty certain that "the police" consistently kill more unarmed white people than any other group when breaking it down by race.

Simple math would give us the reasoning for that.

They need to stop killing EVERYBODY.

I agree on the bold but not necessarily on the first assertion. As this article from CNBC points out, it is a struggle to determine.

Last year, more than 1,000 people were killed by police, according to Mapping Police Violence, one research group.

Black people were disproportionately among those killed, the group found. Black people accounted for 24% of those killed, despite making up only about 13% of the population.

Scientists have struggled to study whether racial bias is directly responsible for the disproportionate killing of black people, given limited data on the race of those with whom police regularly come into contact.
